well alright let's take that example. arabs buy up lots of shares in greek businesses. business gets going, greece pays off its debts. greece then nationalizes all its state assets and tells the investors to get lost (pays them some discounted amount). what are you going to do about it?

the devil you know can be judged. The devil you don't cannot. the us media might be hypocritical but iranian media is probably not without hypocrisy either. the iranians though know some of the reality of living in america, the americans know nothing about living in iran (or any other country).

america is a known quantity. many foreign people live there. iran is a relatively unknown quantity. most iranians in the west come up with anti-iran stories anyway. so it's easier for people to swallow stories that iranians eat each other, rather than americans do.

So let's say they say yes and take your money. Everything is good. They paid back their debts thanks to you. Then they tell you to get lost. What are you going to do about it?

I totally agree that controlling the economy is a good thing. I'm just hugely perplexed as to why you think they would ever allow you to take over their economy. It won't happen in a million years.

so you bail them out. they owe you money. the options become a) they don't repay you. what are you going to do now realistically? they are part of nato and have a strong army. b) they decide to repay. you tell them to build a mosque in athens. they say get lost. you've still not...

it's their country, and they can change the rules to suit them. so you bail them out. things get better and they tell you to go away. now what? :D

What's baffling about it? Afghanistan and Pakistan are at different junctures economically and security/governance/journalism. The lack of security is the problem. People don't want to be targeted.

what's vexing is that he thought there was a military solution in afghanistan. the americans should have been in and out taking pot shots at al qaeda, probably from bases in pakistan. what's left is a mess. there wasnt ever a military solution to the afghan campaign in current form.

It's probably India looking for strategic depth.
