His father (a retired Army officer) is a BJP member in Guwahati as far I know.

To be fair to him, he was much better than the AGP thugs before him and he was personally not corrupt which is a rare breed in politics. His main problem was that he became way too arrogant and complacent after three terms. He is over 80 now, so should retire and spend the rest of his days in peace.
