Vertical Launch Astra Based Air Defence System (LLQRM) Under Development

Astra is developed as a BVR missile, not for agility in close combats. It neither have additional fins (like Python V) or TVC (like MICA) features to enhance that capability and that's where Maitri / MICA comes in. Again, just as in the Spyder SAM system, that includes 2 different missiles...

US Defence Secretary to visit in June to ink defence agreement

Of course they did, because of their unregulated and careless policies and the world paid and still is paying the price for it, including India. LOL, then they went to the wrong country and should had invaded Saudi Arabia, since most of the highjackers were their citizens. And didn't Obama...

Rafale Deal:Dassault likely to enter into JV with Indian firm

Depends on the fighter type, but generally it's 18 fighters per squadron. The number of twin seaters can differ, especially now with multi role fighters replacing older single role once. For MMRCA 16 single seaters and 2 twin seaters was the initial plan, but in between there were reports that...

Vertical Launch Astra Based Air Defence System (LLQRM) Under Development

Not at all, you just have no interest in understanding the differences and by the lack of arguments, you just keep repeating the same things about range. But the fact remains, Akash and Astra are different SAMs with different purposes, just as Barak 8 and Derby are.

US Defence Secretary to visit in June to ink defence agreement

Oh please mate, there is not a single political deal that came out of Modis visit to the US, it was a great show for the public, but completely lacked the substance in the political space and isn't it's even a fact that he only re-newed the defence agreements, that were created under the UPA...

Vertical Launch Astra Based Air Defence System (LLQRM) Under Development

Actually I sad the opposite, highliting the superior warhead and propulsion capabilities of Akash, so please don't put words in my mouth! Astra SAM is just a low cost addition to the Indian SAM capability, but not a highly capable one. You can see the same differences btw on foreign systems too...

Vertical Launch Astra Based Air Defence System (LLQRM) Under Development

Of course it makes sense, since range is not the only important feature to consider here! Astra SAMs will be far lighter and smaller than Akash, that's why you can place them and a variety of platforms (from 4x4 jeeps to 6x6 light trucks easy for air transports), which makes the placement far...

Defence Ministry planning major changes in defence procurement

Which are 2 differnt things!!! Offsets is dependent on what the vendor is ready to divert, which can only be a small part, since the main production remains in their facilities. MMRCA ToT on the other side, was far more diverse, since we demanded the licence production of the whole fighter in...

Defence Ministry planning major changes in defence procurement

The 36 is not a deal with Dassault, but with French government, which means you can't ask Dassault for offsets for them, other than assembly of kits or as said the production of parts we require, but that are not in production right now. But then again, that's nothing compared to what the MMRCA...

Selex announces Skyward-G and BriteCloud milestones for Gripen E

If anybody comes WVR with the F35, why waste a missile, when you simple can take the gun and your superior maneuverability to shoot it down? Besides, DIRCM, just as the active EM decoys will soon be added to all state of the art EW systems. As said, modern EW systems are similar in content of...

HOMEINDIA India set to scout for 100 naval choppers

Nice and interesting pics! The earlier one is already fully upgraded with the latest EWS, while the latter already has the provisions, but lack the sensors. It's good to see them being kept state of the art!

Defence Ministry planning major changes in defence procurement

We bought P8 aircrafts and Boeing was demanded to invest 30% back into Indian industry, that's why parts like the weaponbay door are now build by HAL or other JV partners, which is the same as they are planing now, just by calling it officially Make in India. The rest of the plan is wishful...

US Defence Secretary to visit in June to ink defence agreement

Haven't they created enough mess in the world? No thanks She don't have to be a Modi fan because he is unimportant, all that counts for her or any US president, is the interest of the US. It was in the interest of the US to push us as an official nuclear power under Bush, it was in the...

Dassault Rafale, tender | News & Discussions [Thread 2]

Hope we will get more infos on the delivery time line on monday, when the contract is supposed to be signed, because that will show us how much Rafales and when we can expect for India. I assume that Qatar will go for F3R's though with the same config as the French forces, which then could mean...

Carter to offer Scorpion to India under joint development plan

What's there to jointly develop, in an aircraft that is already developed? What they actually mean is co-producing / outsourcing basic production parts, but that's it.

Washington should aid India develop next-generation aircraft carriers: US expert

Tellis is Indian origin, but with a US nationality, not sure if that makes him an US expert. The rest is wishful thinking, the US doesn't share critical techs, let alone would help India, while it would be more in the interest of US defence companies to sell India US fighters. The more the...

Selex announces Skyward-G and BriteCloud milestones for Gripen E

Again, they don't combine with an IRST but they have "IRST modes". EOTS is a targeting pod which includes A2A "modes" to use it as a limited IRST. That's possible today with other targeting pods like the Damocles, but doesn't provide the performance of a proper IRST. Dassault today even tries to...

    Indian Navy News & Discussions

Which again suggests that we had a choice, which we didn't because the Su 33 was out of production and not suitable for a medium class carrier like the Vikramaditya. But also because the Russians wanted us to fund the Mig 29K production, since they wanted that fighter to, as a low end for their...
