It's not India everywhere, I mentioned most South Asian countries and China as well as Russia.

I agree! But how did this happen in the first place? Considering India and Sri Lanka had basically identical average conditions even just 40 years ago. It would be an interesting case study.
It is more equivalent to compare Sri Lanka to East Asia and South East Asia rather than South Asia.

This is a good point, however GDP does matter in terms of geopolitical power. GDP per capita is what one should worry about regarding living standards. Actually a better measure than both would be GDP (PPP) per person employed.
