Sri Lankan Economy to grow at 8 pct in 2014

At 7% growth, economies double every decade. At 8%, it doubles every 9 years. Even if we estimate low, SL will probably be over $10,000 nominal and $22,000 PPP per capita by 2030. Just did some math: Only 6.3% average growth up to 2030 is needed to bring our per-capita GDP to $10,000 or 22,000...

PICTURES: Look inside a standard apartment handed over to slum inhabitants

It is Sigiriya. It's a rock fortress carved out of solid granite ~1500 years ago, as the Capital by King Kasyapa. The entrance used to be into a lion's mouth, but the head crumbled away leaving only the paws. Gravity-fed water fountains built a thousand years ago, still function today. The rock...

If I remember correctly, Industry grew 8.1% this quarter, faster than real GDP growth. Construction was counted separate to the "industry" category.

They don't have furniture because the slums were demolished some time ago. This will be their only furniture until they buy/make their own. Perhaps it will be misused. But it is better for the media to point out misused furniture than people living in slums or sleeping on the ground.

These people have nothing, the alternative is to make them sleep on the floor, how is that raising them up? The whole purpose is to rid the country of the slum dwelling mindset completely. The only way to change their mindset is to give them the tools needed to live a modern life. Whether it is...

Yes it is free! I have no idea how much it cost per unit though, but I assume they got some discount for building 20,000 units at once. The Government wants zero poverty in the country by 2016. Oh really! How much does a similar unit cost in India?

Under the first phase 20000 housing units will be built and constructions of 14764 are in progress at present. The housing units come with all basic facilities and are...

Sri Lanka Economy grows 7.8% in 2013 third quarter

Thank you for your kind words. I believe Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei are South-East Asia. Regarding Sri Lanka's role, I'm not sure what it will be globally or in the region! Perhaps it will be a place for the Eastern World and the Western World to meet, considering its history with both...
