Hi. Thank you for reaching out. I will be responding to it in a two days time. Meanwhile i'm looking for some more information on that debate which answers the question reasonably. I just hope the debate goes and personal attacks stop. Cheers.

Perhaps we should leave it. The thread will be very difficult to manage now. If appropriate you can reply me here to answer the question. Moreover, i guess its a pretty simple question. 1) AIM 120 follow loft approach but Can AIM120 ONLY follow loft approach. 2) Will it level off to attack from a different angle at final stage

Alright so here is the thing.

Unlike AIM-7s and earlier AIM-120's, the C5 version does not have manual switch to disable LOFT capability. However according to some estimates, pilots believe if an AMRAAM is fired at lesser then 40 km range. The lofting does take place anyway but the in a smaller degree.

2) In the terminal stage the missile levels off. At what range? It is classified. This information would enable adversaries to employ counter measures in a fashion to effectively evade the missile.

So this answers it all then. It is not NECESSARY that the AIM120 will ALWAYS climb up to follow LOFT approach. The range etc might have a say and the missile may not rise very high to come down on target from above.
