Thats wht is Saab saying that lets actually use Gripen E and add Indian requirements/customizations and officially make it LCA Gripen Mk2 . Its very much possible and as i said if you want a quality light fighter thats a very good option. But Saab as of today is not in a position to bring in the tech side

Engine is still american and suppose if its Kaveri than it fits the billl with Gripen itself attaining FOC in 2022/23 timeline so a refit and a re certification can give us LCA Gripen MK2 by 2025

But what about other systems. Will that be fully shared like GaN radar tech or say a new EW suite or integration of Indian missiles or missiles common to either Russian or French side or even Israeli.

Its a strong possibility no doubt but they have to come forward. Again the biggest hurdle is HAL. Will you be comfortable giving HAL this prject? It will be having issues and Saab will be on drivers seat and point HAL is not able to match the cooperation day and night

What about the newer F-18SE, the one shown in Aero India. Given that the prices are not drastically higher than F-16s, and the operating expenses are just 25-30% higher, considering that it is a twin engine aircraft. And the commonality of engines with Tejas will mean less logistical nightmare.
