Moody's puts positive outlook for Pakistan's economy

Published 35 minutes ago
KARACHI: Global rating agency Moody’s on Monday upgraded the outlook of Pakistan's economy to stable from negative, DawnNews reported.

In a report published by the agency on the progress of Pakistan's economy, Moody's said the country's foreign exchange reserves had significantly improved and its current account deficit was also under control.

The report added that the issuance of euro bonds had given a support of $2 billion to Pakistan's economy.

Measures taken by the Pakistani government for economic reforms have also enhanced the country's chances of receiving the next loan tranche from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Moody’s had previously given a negative outlook on Pakistan’s economy. On May 7, Moody’s Investors Service in its review on the ‘Credit Analysis on Government of Pakistan’ stated that Pakistan’s ‘Caa1’ government bond rating with a negative outlook reflected its “very low institutional and fiscal strength, its weakened external position and large government financing needs”.

In its latest report, the rating agency also noted that the country had managed to attract foreign investment on improved financial indicators and with a steady economic performance, there was the possibility of credit rating improvement.

This right here is huge for Pakistan and its current government's policies. The G-8 and other developed countries get Moody's research and market prediction to invest and provide loans and project funding. Going to Negative to Positive means that Moody's is giving out a green signal to invest into Pakistan. Which means investor's confidence on the current government's policies.

Pakistani's need to understand they are right on the verge of an insanely fast and valuable economic development cycle, if they play their cards right. The country's security and political situation HAS to work together and towards betterment, without political and terrorism related unrest so that hundreds of billions can be poured into Pakistan's system, resulting in 200 million people securing a better future for their generations with millions of new jobs and other growth that will happen. Your country misses this boat, it won't ever progress. So please take a look around and remain democratic, run the current system as it should be run without derailment, and support the system without any further violence and destructive political unrest.
I see these comments about "changing the system"...the best change is that comes with a positive attitude without violence and risking innocent lives. If anyone wants to try to bring about the "change" where innocent people get killed, that's not a change. That's a violence society presenting itself. That will take the investor's confidence away, will further destroy Pakistan's image in front of everyone else and will take you guys back to 20 years economically. Its time to show maturity to take your country forward, not backwards

well said Orangzaib....but tell that to PTI and Maulana Inqalab who are convinced to take Pakistan backwards....Infact with this moody's report, there might be a good chance to get international funding for Bhasha dam which is badly needed rite now.
Although I am not a PMLN supporter but current govt looks serious to solve the problems and take the country out of falling economy crises.
I wish that the current govt and its system keeps on going and they manage to improve and take the economy out of the crises otherwise a derailment of the current govt system would be definitely devastating for the country and there would be nothing left to save.

I am right there with you. There are MANY in the US who may not be happy with whoever the current administration may be. But when it comes down to it, we are ALL Americans. America comes before anything and that's how a nation rises. America also represents one of the finest democratic systems. Just 60 or 70 years ago, we still had slavery.....who would've thought that in less than a century post slavery, you'll have an African American president???? Many, many millions of Caucasians voted for Obama and I am sure some's grand parents were part of the slavery days. This is an example of Change. It comes slowly and positively. The system once starts to produce results, it should NEVER be derailed. That should be treason as it hampers 200 million citizens future for a few thousand or million selfish people. Take a look at India and Malaysia.....no matter how much they hate a specific government, the system takes its course. If you want the job again.....guess what??? You have to produce and work hard for the people. Otherwise, the people will throw you out. Take a look at what just happened in India.
You guys need to understand the democratic values, they allow you to keep your frustration inside and respect the majority's decision. Wait for your term. If you don't get one....you weren't meant to be. Then you should consult with God and find out why!
