The T-84 Oplot was a heavily upgraded version of the T-80UD, it lost to the VT-4.

It does seems like they're going for 2 Main tanks for the future. VT-4 and AK-2 and since the AK-2 is still a long way from completion, so it's better to make sure the other tanks aren't left behind. If AK-2 jeeps getting delayed they'll probably just order more VT-4s.

How many VT-4s could be bought with just $85mn? There's absolutely no reason to replace these right now.

We are already getting VT-4s in big numbers which are better overall, we did plan on upgrading our T-80UDs/T-84s to Oplot standards, but stopped due to high costs.
