Defence Ministry approves deal to procure 262 missiles for the Barak air defence systems. Major relief for Navy. Deal worth Rs 880 crore.

* Clears procurement of 40 ALH choppers for the Army, one for the Navy. To be produced by HAL.

* Two DSRV's and 16 shallow water anti sub vessels.

* Navy gets go ahead to purchase 16 new anti submarine shallow vessel craft. Will cost Rs 13,440 crore.

* Only two deals that will be signed after today's decision are: a) 262 Barak missiles b) 41 ALH choppers.

* Anti sub shallow vessel craft and deep sea rescue vessels, procurement process will start, will take years to procure.

I heard LCH is also quite close to induction in the "Indian army".

Basically surface ships, perhaps Corvettes, with dedicated anti-sub warfare capabilities.

Basically the light corvettes like present Abhay class corvettes.

Nope , it will be inducted in 2016-17.
By 2014-15 LCH is expected to get IOC standards
