THE NEWS:

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to disassociate itself from the pro-Taliban religious parties and terrorist organisations like the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), Sipah-e-Sahaba and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) to create its acceptability as a democratic party in the West and the US.

The PML-N has been accused of being a sympathiser of pro-Taliban religious and terrorist parties due to which the West and the US have reservations about it. At the national level, it also faced strong criticism because of its association with the ASWJ, Sipah-e-Sahaba and LJ. These organisations were held responsible for different terrorist attacks in the country, including suicide bombings, and targeting the armed forces, sensitive installations, and Shias in Balochistan, the Northern Areas and Karachi.

The Punjab has been declared a safe haven for the Punjabi Taliban and LJ. No doubt that once the LJ, being an ally of the PML-N, enjoyed a free hand in the Punjab. Other provinces alleged that terrorist activities in their areas were initiated in the Punjab.

Former provincial minister Rana Sanaullah’s close association with these organisations and Punjab chief minister’s statement declaring the Taliban and PML-N being on the same page cannot be ignored in this regard.

Diplomats from different countries have expressed their reservations to the party leadership about its sympathetic views on the Taliban and terrorist organisations, especially after attacks on Christians in the Punjab.

Reviewing the situation, the PML-N has decided to put on the face of a liberal democratic party, which is a healthy sign. Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s statement criticising the timing of the Pak-Iran gas pipeline was also meaningful and drew the attention of the West and the US.(A BETRAYAL AND DISASTER FOR PAKISTAN IN MY VIEW IF PAK IRAN PIPELINE IS STOPPED But the PML-N circles clarified that they would not oppose any project that would benefit the people of Pakistan.

New entries from the PML-Q and Pervez Musharaf’s team into the PML-N have played a major role in the policy shift. They made the party leadership realise that the party was suffering from its fundamentalist and pro-Taliban views.

A PML-N leader disclosed they had strong opposition from the party over this shift as some elements linked it with religion but they had been told that this shift had nothing to do with religion.

Shahbaz Sharif has liberal views:omghaha: and played a major role in bringing about this shift and resultantly, the PML-N will not make an alliance with the extremists. Senator Pervaiz Rashid declared it as their election strategy and said the party had contested two elections on its own without going into any alliance. He denied the impression that they were doing this to please the US and the West.

MEANING:
THESE NOORA LEAGUE GOONS WILL DO ANYTHING TO PLEASE WEST AND SPECIALLY SAUDIS IF IT MEANS TO BECOME LEFT WING PARTY(AS YOU RECALL THEY WERE IN TALKS WITH TTP NOT A MONTH AGO FROM TODAY:cheesy:) AND STOP PAK IRAN PIPELINE JUST TO PLEASE SAUDI PETROL PUMPS.
WHAT A DISGRACEFUL PARTY(MEDIA IS LAUGHING ON N LEAGUE THEY HAVE BECOME SO DELUSIONAL THAT THEY WILL GET 2/3 MAJORITY IN UPCOMING ELECTIONS

Imran favours Pak-Iran gas pipeline project

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan said on Monday that Pak-Iran Gas pipeline project was in country’s interest but the delay in finalization of seven years old project was beyond thinking.

In a statement issued here, PTI Chairman said that the PAK-Iran gas pipeline project was in favor of the country but the questions is that why the government has finalized such project at a time when assemblies were set to dissolve.

He said that the Metro Bus Service and Danish schools were costly projects but PTI will not close these projects after coming into power.

Commenting on the increasing corruption in the country, PTI Chief said that the rulers of the country have not been declaring their assets just to hide their tax evading but after coming into power PTI would hold these tax evaders accountable.

PTI Chairman said that most of the politicians in country have their assets in foreign countries and a person whose assets were in outside countries has no right to do politics here. “Only the tax evader needs to hide assets,” said Imran. “Historic thefts have been taken place in the country but the PTI will also do the historic accountability of all thieves, he added.

He said that the country was going through severe crisis but the rulers of the country were enjoying lavishes and their elite living. “People in the country are compelled to sell their children and even their body organs due to poverty but the government has been paying no heed towards their plights,” said PTI chief.

He said that all the leaders of PTI had declared their assets but the leadership of other parties was not ready to do so just to save their skin.

He said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) would be made an autonomous body which would work without any influence. “PTI has formed a complete anti-corruption policy in order to wipe out corruption from all government departments,” said PTI Chief, adding that his party would adopt a step-by-step approach to bring an end to corruption and to hold all corrupt people accountable. Imran Khan said that the police would also be depoliticized as it was the only way to provide courage to law enforcers for taking action even against the leaders of the country.

PTI Chairman said that a fair local body system would be introduced in the country to start development projects at every level of the country.

He said that it was unfortunate fact that the government employees instead of serving the common masses busy in doing duties for Bilawal House and Raiwand.

He said that the corporate departments should work under corporate sector instead of ministries. “Executive boards of corporate departments including PIA, WAPDA, Steel Mills, Railway will be formed so that all the decisions can be taken on merit,” he said.

He said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) tried to cheat every step of PTI but it could not hold intra party elections likewise PTI, adding that the intra party elections would bring an end to the traditional politics in the country.

“After coming into power, PT I will ensure the supremacy of law so that the justice can be delivered at equal basis,” he said. He said that PTI was in favor of dialogue process with Taliban just to bring peace in the country. PR

PML-N supports Pak-Iran gas pipeline project | Oye Times

The PML-N election manifesto-2013 claims to overcome power shortages within three years after coming into power. The party chief, Nawaz Sharif, has also promised to enhance minimum wages to PKR 15,000 per month, generate one million jobs for youth under the National Youth Policy, appoint chiefs of the armed services on the basis of seniority and merit and create separate provinces of Hazara, Janoobi Punjab and Bahawalpur.

Highlights of the manifesto were announced during a press conference at Nawaz Sharif’s residence in Model Town on Thursday. Nawaz claimed that if his party goes on winning the upcoming elections, his government would pursue such revolutionary policies which would curb terrorism, maintain peace and harmony in the country.

Referring to the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project, Nawaz told the journalists that he does not follow the pro-American or anti-American philosophies. Foreign policy should only be focused at taking decisions that are in the best interest of Pakistan. He indirectly showed full support for importing gas from Iran. However, he insisted that Pakistan must focus on developing friendly relations with all the countries worldwide.

Nawaz also announced the creation of a Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources through the merger of ministries of water and power and petroleum and natural resources after gaining power. He mentioned about a specially designed employment program aimed at generating three million new jobs in the public and private sectors with special focus on IT and SMEs sectors.

PML-N manifesto also aims at doubling the annual average rate of GDP growth from 3pc in the last five years to over 6pc in the next five years, accelerating the rate of industrial growth from three to eight percent per annum, bringing down the budget deficit to 4pc of GDP, increasing Tax GDP ratio from 9 to 15pc by 2018, generating 10,000-MW additional electricity including 5000-MW new coal fired power plants under IPP mode, mobilizing fresh investment of $20 billion for power plants and related infrastructures, progressively reducing transmission and distribution losses to 10pc, accelerating agricultural growth to an average of 4pc per annum and raising total spending on ‘non-pension’ social security from 1pc of GDP to 2pc by 2018.

Interestingly when PMLN did seat adjustment with ASWJ, their supporters denied it, now that its been alleged that they did so to please west, they are denying it again :)

Fazl toes US line on Iran gas

MAY BE HE WANTS POWER GENERATION THROUGH DIESEL:-)

LAHORE - Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl staged a show of political force, the first of its kind by the religious party in the capital of Punjab where it has no significant ground presence.
Addressing the participants on Sunday evening, JUI-F Amir Fazlur Rehman claimed that only his party can rid the poor of the slavery of the elite, end power shortages, uphold the Islamic identity of Pakistan, protect its sovereignty and serve the very purpose of its creation.
People from various cities, even from other provinces, came to swell the crowd at Minar-e-Pakistan, where some 30,000 chairs had been arranged. Most of the participants of ‘Islam Zindabad Conference’ were students of religious seminaries, the main constituency of the JUI-F.
Overall, the JUI-F leaders who spoke on the occasion displayed a particularly soft corner for Mian Nawaz Sharif, the chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which ruled Punjab for the last five years and with which the JUI-F has been seeking an electoral alliance.
But they breathed fire at Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI), which recently rallied hundreds of thousands at the same place promising the nation to rid it from the rule of the looters. Over past two years the PTI has gained in popularity and has come to challenge the PML-N in Punjab. It has also gained significant ground in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the bastion of JUI-F.
Criticising Imran Khan, the speakers said his party’s culture was based on ‘dances and vulgarity’. They said Islamic system would not be enforced by the PTI even if it got an opportunity to come to power. The Islamic system, they said, would be enforced only by the JUI-F.
The participants kept raising slogans of ‘Islamic Revolution’ during the speeches. Because of the security threat, the government had blocked mobile phone service in the surrounding areas. A total of 2,000 police cops had been deployed to maintain peace. Another 5,000 volunteers of the JUI-F were also performed security duties.
The speakers said the JUI-F would give a surprising performance in the May 11 elections and Fazlur Rehman would be the next prime minister. Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, former KP chief minister Akram Khan Durrani, ex-Senator Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, Ataur Rehman, Dr Atiqur Rehman, Muhammad Khan Sherani and Saeed Yousaf also addressed on the occasion. Amjad Khan conducted the proceedings.
JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman in his speech also claimed that Pakistan does not need to import gas from Iran or Tajikistan, as the country has sufficient gas reserves to meet the energy needs for 20 to 25 years. In his opinion, to exploit these resourses the country needed proper management.
He is the second important political figure who opposed the $1.5 billion Pak-Iran gas pipeline which was inaugurated by President Asif Ali Zardai along with his Iranian counterpart on March 11, 2013. Two weeks ago, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif called it a ‘drama’.
Fazl said the country also has the capacity to meet its electricity needs. “Electricity producing unites are owned by private companies, who stop production when the government does not pay their dues,” he said, claiming the shortfall is created artificially.
He was critical of the over-projection of nationalities, saying it had divided the nation. He said their conference’s purpose was to remember the objective of the creation of Pakistan – protection of Muslims’ rights. But, he said, unfortunately, it could not become an Islamic welfare state.
He claimed that only his party could rid the poor of the slavery of the Punjab feudal lords. “We have come here to give this message to the people of Punjab”. The JUI-F chief said the landlords cannot be allowed to keep the tenants subjugated. They would have to give the tenants their due rights.
He said the workers would have to be given 50 per cent representation in the boards of governors of industries. He also welcomed the Christian, Sikh and Hindu participants of the public meeting, saying their participation proved they have faith in the fact that Islam grants rights to minorities.
Fazl said it was regrettable that Kashmir dispute was not being given due importance. “Kashmir issue was centre of our foreign policy in the past... the government is more interested in Afghanistan issue now.”
He said peace in the region depended on Pak-India relations that in turn depend on Kashmir. He also regretted the change in defence strategy, saying, “When Indian forces are on borders, we are paying more heed to terrorism.”
He said several nations were facing threats to their sovereignty from America and West. “We are with those nations for their right to sovereignty.” He also repeated the mantra of fighting war for Islamic cause in the parliament.

N.Sharif distancing his party from those groups is a welcome move IMO.

Call it pressure of democracy/votes or PTI or popular opinion, but this was a good development.

Yep, scared of another 5 years with a government that is corrupt and incompetent.
Scared of a party that has no vision outside it's stomach.
Scared for the millions of who will die from diseases, children who won't get an education, and who wont' have a future.
Scared for the economy that will languish at 1-3% like it has in Punjab for the last 5 years.

These are reasons for everyone to be scared of PMLN, which is why we must defeat this evil with our vote and inshallah bring an honest government in power that can fix Pakistan.

There is little doubt, that Nawaz is the center piece of the plan to keep Pakistan a subsurvient, client state.

What is that? Who allowed USA to conduct drone strikes and even gave them Shamsi airbase? Pakistan has always been subservient when Army was in command. Every dictator went out of his way to accommodate American designs even when it was detrimental to Pakistan.

Nawaz has every right to form a government and form policies he deems fit if he wins the public mandate. Interest of this nation comes before any organization.

As a Pakistani you are supposed to accept the public mandate whichever way it may go. Generals have this theory that Pakistani public can not be trusted with the power of vote. I hope you don't go that way.

Nawaz sharif openly said that gwadar port handover is a mistake right after he met American Ambassador so there is very little doubt about whom he is trying to please here. I am pretty sure that he has zero intention to pursue IP gas pipeline. He will probably going to sign a deal with KSA for cheap oil and there goes IP gas pipeline.

It is a mistake and I share his opinion. For half of Pakistan's life it was Ameria-ila now they (powers that be) are bringing up China-ila. Thank you but Pakistan MUST stand on its own two feet if it wants to achieve something.
