The next big economy in Asia?

I have a question guys.I still dont understand what`s PPP for can anyone help me on this.even though I read it many times now I`m still kinda confused

PPP takes into account the relative cost of living and the inflation rates of countrieswhile Nominal GDP only takes exchange rates

Living standards are measured with PPP while wealth is measured by Nominal

The world measures the relative sizes of economies based on PPP terms (and that is only why that metric was invented in the first place... remember Mac-Index?), as that highlights the actual 'value' of production and consumption (economic activity) and thus helps economists to understand the relative levels of prosperity and growth...

In Asia, China is the first and by a very very comfortable margin, Japan is 2nd and India is 3rd ... However, after the recent natural disasters and the following nuclear disasters has pushed Japanese economy in a recesion and has Shrunk by more than a percentage for the second quarter on thr trot and a look at that, with an expected 8.5-9% growth in India will give you a very clear idea that it is a matter of 1-2 years (just because Inflation takes away some meaning of our growth numbers, else it would have happened in 1 year) that India becomes the second biggest economy in Asia... Some numbers for your reference (PPP numbers from CIA Factbook):

1. USA - 14.9 Trillion
2. China - 9.9 Trillion
3. Japan - 4.3 Trillion (degrowing by ~1% annualy)
4. India - 4.0 Trillion (growing by 9% on average)

In South Asia, we are the leader by miles as the second country on the list (Pakistan) is at 451 Billion
so, India is the next big economy in Asia!

Indian economic growth will slow to only more than 7 percent, dont ask why, check out your hindustantimes.com

Why I remember even south Korea economy is bigger than india's?

Yes. I agree. I said the second biggest economy after China in Asia is Japan. But be it 15 years or 100 years, i can see India over-taking Japan soon, just like how China will over-take the US soon. Japan is in a decline.

Anyway, on topic. India is by far the biggest economy in South Asia.

It will probably take 100 years for China or India to overtake per capita income of Japan. Japan will keep its position by providing knowlege base services to the billions in China and India and make the quality of life to its citizen even better. A prospersous India and China is good for whole world as it will add 2 more billion consumers.

Bangladesh will overtake all!

Just my gut feeling based on the posts I read.
