Zamil Ship Building and Maintenance has signed a partnership agreement with CMN French Shipbuilding Company to develop the company's capabilities in the field of shipbuilding and speedboat manufacturing in the Kingdom, as well as transfer of technology and training of Saudi youth.
"The contract, worth about 1.8 billion riyals ($ 600 million), was signed on the sidelines of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to France," Abdul Rahman al-Zamil, chairman of the Zamil company, said in an interview with Al-Arabiya. As the Saudi vision 2030 aims at strengthening the local content of shipbuilding in Saudi Arabia.
He pointed out that the agreement includes the manufacture of 39 vessels, 50% of these vessels will be manufactured in Saudi Arabia by Zamil Shipbuilding Company, confirming that this trend is in line with the objectives of Saudi Arabia vision 2030, which stresses the importance of 50% local content of the contract value.
"The visit of the Crown Prince to France has been the strongest support for concluding agreements with Saudi companies," he said, adding that some ships would be used for border guards and other technical and logistical services.
He stressed that the importance of the contract with the French company, highlights that all maintenance services will take place in Saudi Arabia for many years t come, in addition to the benefit of 25 Saudi suppliers for this contract, and Saudi capabilities and competencies of young people, adding that the Saudi shipbuilding industry includes 700 young Saudis working in this sector.
