WASHINGTON: Pakistan has made low-yield nuclear weapons to bridge the gap for war that India had created through its cold-start doctrine, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry said on Tuesday.
This is the first concrete explanation from a senior Pakistani official on how Islamabad plans to deal with New Delhi's so-called cold-start doctrine, now renamed the proactive strategy, Dawn reported.
It also is a rare confession of Pakistan's decision to make tactical nuclear weapons to deal with the possible threat of an Indian aggression. Briefing the Pakistani media on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's visit to Washington, Chaudhry said Pakistan would not sign any nuclear deal with the US during Sharif's visit.
Sharif arrives in Washington on Wednesday for a meeting with US President Barack Obama, scheduled for October 22.
"Our nuclear program is one dimensional: stopping Indian aggression before it happens. It is not for starting a war. It is for deterrence," the foreign secretary said.
Explaining India's cold-start doctrine, Chaudhry said under this strategy India had already moved its cantonments close to the Pakistani border. This allowed India also to move its conventional weapons close to Pakistan along with other vehicles and fuel supplies.
By drastically reducing the time required to launch an aggression against Pakistan, India had "created a space for war," Chaudhry said.
He explained that Pakistan's "low-yield, tactical nuclear weapons" would make it difficult for India to launch a war against Pakistan while remaining under the nuclear threshold.
In reply to a question about Pakistan joining the Nuclear Suppliers Group, the foreign secretary said the US policy of getting India included in this group was "discriminatory".
"We encourage the US to have a non-discriminatory approach, a balanced approach," he said.

pakistani people be like
1.our navy can counter your navy
2.our airforce can stop your af
3.our tanks and artillery are batter then yours
4.our soldiers are more skilled and brave
but if u attack,we will start by using our nuclear weapons.
now think how shallow other statements looks like.
it also shows how much confidence they have in their forces.

Seems like Pakistan has nuclear wepons and India has bananas. If there is war and Pakistan uses nuclear wepons, India will not run to UN or USA. First thing india does is inform the world and UN to take off the name plate of Pakistan from UN table and declare one country less on the list from now onwards.

India is helpless...for Pakistan's fate.

what, india will launch strategic nukes in response to pakistan using nukes on its own territory? in that case india might want to ask the UN to remove its name plate too, as india does not have nuclear superiority vs pakistan..

Pakistan will use low yeild after india decied to invade or got land not before that

Lol,who told you so:lol:!!According to a conservative estimate and that too conducted about 5 years ago we have got enough fissile materials to build at least a 1000 fission nuclear bombs at any moment!Personally i believe that the numbers would be around 3000-4000 at present!!No body knows about the nuclear arsenal of India because we are very secretive about it.You'll never see an Indian general or a minister threatening Pakistan or for that matter China with nukes every now and then unlike some of our dear western neighbors. We have got a No First Use policy and we'll continue to follow it in the foreseeable future no matter who comes to power at the center:coffee:!!

"According to a conservative estimate " india has no nuclear weapon and has been faking it all.

see the problems with making a big claim without any sources?

and why would india threaten china with nukes? the chinese nuclear forces is superior in every way possible.

even uk doctrin says that if weapon of mass destruction(including chemical or bio) are used on its troops anywhere in world,it will retaliate with neuks.your argument is nonsense.

Similarly the Indian nuclear forces are superior than their Pakistani counterparts in every possible way:coffee:
Btw,no one and i repeat no one has got any credible info about the Indian nuclear arsenal because of the secrecy of our Govt. in this regard and because India is an important nation to the American foreign policy they have literally turned a blind eye to our nuclear program!!

no your argument is nonsense, "even UK"? since when is the UK the end of all arguments? you might worship them, but i sure don't, heck just this week they were begging china for more trade. furthermore there are threats then there is real life, the US might say "we'll nuke you if you sink our carrier" but if russia really did one day i still doubt the US will go and launch a general nuclear strike on russia leading to the end of both countries. pakistan's postures are clearly defensive in nature stating that the nukes for in the event of an indian invasion and its use would be on pakistani soil, you saying india is willing to end itself over a stalled invasion? i'd wager the indian government at least is smarter than that.

Similarly the Indian nuclear forces are superior than their Pakistani counterparts in every possible way:coffee:

not every way, but its why pakistan's nuclear posture calls for nuclear weapons use only inside pakistani soil. they are not threatening to go bomb indian cities

Btw,no one and i repeat no one has got any credible info about the Indian nuclear arsenal because of the secrecy of our Govt. in this regard and because India is an important nation to the American foreign policy they have literally turned a blind eye to our nuclear program!!

so why is your number of "1000 in a day", more credible than mine "dont actually have any"?

only a insane will start a nuke war and only his irresponsible friend can actually support him

only a insane will start a nuke war and only his irresponsible friend can actually support him

not insane if it works, i guaranteed this makes indian planners thoughts of invasions or some cold start like action much more unlikely. again it does not call for strikes on india, only on pakistani soil.
