US-India statement dangles FATF sword over Pakistan, again

LOL You wish. China too can only do so much. Although I would absolutely like Pakistan to align itself with China. Even when we have crooks like PDM and nasty generals in charge. It is very important that Pakistan chooses China's side though.
I agree that China can only do so much, and its Pakistan's rulers who have to make the difference. Perhaps Munir saab is working towards that, by weeding out opposition to Army's view.

There's no need for speculation. Pakistan has graciously complied with all possible demands by the FATF in ensuring transparency in the banking infrastructure for its own good not for some wild ghost chase of terrorism.

Indian financial blackmail of international forums like FATF, SCO and BRICS is just but a reminder of how immature the fake nation state of India is.

WASHINGTON: The joint US-India statement has not only urged Pakistan to take ’immediate action“ against all terrorist groups, but also left open the option of asking the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to further tighten its anti-money-laundering and terrorism financing standards.

The statement, issued after a White House meeting between President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, said the two leaders “called upon the FATF to undertake further work identifying how to improve global implementation of its standards to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.”

Uzair Younus, a South Asian scholar with the Atlantic Council, Washington, said this should be a cause of concern for Pakistan because “there’s evidence that when pushed on the FATF side, Pakistan does comply with specific demands like this.”

He referred to the Sajid Mir case, adding that in the fall of 2021, “Sajid Mir was brought back from the dead” when Pakistan faced similar pressures.

Opens up possibility of Indian-influenced ‘designations’ to press Islamabad into action

Mir was on the FBI’s list of most-wanted terrorists, and was wanted by both the US and India over the Mumbai attacks. Although it was initially claimed that he was dead, he was arrested by Pakistani security agencies in 2022 and subsequently convicted.

The statement also underlines the cooperation between the US and Indian governments on “counterterrorism designations and homeland security cooperation,” including in intelligence sharing and law enforcement cooperation.

This gives them the option of joint designations, further increasing pressure on Pakistan to go after those declared terrorists by the Indian government.

The statement “called on Pakistan to take immediate action to ensure that no territory under its control is used for launching terrorist attacks” and called for “the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai and Pathankot attacks to be brought to justice.”

At their White House meeting, Biden, and Modi reiterated the call for concerted action against all UN-listed terrorist groups including Al-Qaeda, the so-called Islamic State (IS), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and Hizb-ul-Mujhahideen.

“This means that the US is now aligning itself with India to push Pakistan to take verifiable actions against groups that in the past have received sanctuary or patronage,” said Shuja Nawaz, a Pakistani-American scholar.

“Significant that nothing is said about Indian repression in Kashmir or Manipur or curtailing Gandhi from parliament,” he noted.

Mr Younus, however, pointed out that the message from the US “has been loud and clear for a while: act against terrorists that have found a safe haven on Pakistani soil, especially those linked to LeT and responsible for terror attacks in Mumbai and Pathankot.”

Asked why Washington was supporting an Indian demand, he said: “The US has a long history of supporting this demand, and for valid reasons as US citizens also died there.”

The joint statement stressed that the United States and India “stand together to counter global terrorism and unequivocally condemn terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations.”

The two leaders strongly condemned cross-border terrorism, the use of terrorist proxies and “they noted with concern the increasing global use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), drones and information and communication technologies for terrorist purposes and reaffirmed the importance of working together to combat such misuse.”

What a joke! The so called scholar has no idea how FATF works and the fact that the communique by the 2 countries does not include words like "State Sponsored" which would have been a cause for serious concern. There is no chance of Pakistan going into the FATF list at the moment.

I miss old days when you guys were aggressive in defending Pak policies. This sux ☹️
Well, many here are more aligned to Imran Khan than Pakistan, their patriotism is to PTI and not to Pakistan. All those who wish bad for Pakistan, under any Government, should be ashamed of themselves. All those celebrating failures and conspiracies should be ashamed. A patriot will defend the country no matter what!

Imagine speaking against something they are fully backing. The US administration is full of $hit.

Take a jump.. we do not support a Pakistan run by thieves and whisky drinking generals.
If you are supporting the current crooks government and the army leadership backing them then that is a reflection of your own low standards and morals.. no need to say anything more…

Well, the haramis generals and politicians won't be effected, our country keeps getting crapped on. This GHQ cancer needs some extreme treatment
I think like the other tinpot regimes they have decided that it’s more important to direct their force against their own and prolong their stranglehold on the country rather compete with real external enemies.

You see the signs of it in many things. Every other country has called some act by its rival its 9/11. Our military called an internal protest by its own citizens in which all deaths happened on protesters’ side it’s 9/11.

The attitude they are portraying in the the matter of giving citizen’s their right to choose is completely rigid while everything against real external enemies including Kashmir and everything else is up for negotiation and retreat.

It’s not about Khan. I may support him, you may support someone else. We can debate disagree even curse each other. But we each had a right to choose who ever we want.

Right now it’s an open secret that this right has been usurped. Their is open discussion of why elections are not being held or how they will use force to disallow people voting for a party.

You do understand that the law of the land calls for death penalty for the kind of actions they are taking.

Pakistan is on the way to be classed as terrorist state once again if that happens we will be black listed and under sanctions there will be restrictive movement for Pakistani citizens, other commercial and financial services etc….
The western powers will ask Pakistan to draw back any program on nuclear /missiles and cut back on military..This is going to bury Pakistan’s Army into the ground the PDM and the Army will fight amongst themselves s cause such a chaos .
Why did Dar mention about missiles prog when IMF didn’t ask anything.
Qureshi asks Ishaq Dar to clarify his missile statement

Alarm bells ringing .

Well, fortunately I am neither of low intellect nor an opportunist which is why I support Pakistan regardless of who it is being Governed by. I will criticize and I will disagree with a lot of things but I am still strong and confident enough to agree with Zardari when he is right (like his recent talk on Pakistan's potential to increase the FE to 100 Billion USD and his offer on charter of economy) and with PML where they are right (like meeting the IMF Chief in France in attempt for the 9th review) etc., unlike petty little Imran lovers who are actually just as opportunistic as Imran himself.

That is not established, 4 out of 7 Supreme Court Judges disagree with the CJ and his 2 cronies on Punjab elections. There will be a constitutional crisis or impasse no matter what is done; now or at the time of General Elections. If Punjab elections are undertaken now then Punjab will have an elected Government whereas the constitution says there must be a caretaker setup for the GE.

At the time of 18th amendments, those who devolved powers to the Provinces did not envision this crisis and hence the impasse.

Unless our people pick up arms and force them to quit, these nazis will continue their occupation of our country.

I really wish IK was not a pacifict, you got to understand that it should be eye for an eye, otherwise only the peaceful go blind.
