Sri Lanka Navy Denies Allegations by Indian fishermen

The Navy yesterday denied repeated allegations levelled by Indian fishermen that they were being attacked while fishing between Danushkodi and the Katchchathivu Island.

The Indian fishermen claimed they were attacked while they were within their territorial waters.

Navy spokesman Athula Senerath said the Navy only patrolled Sri Lanka’s territorial waters and not outside its perimeter.

“As such we do not patrol between Danushkodi and the Katchathivu Island. The Sri Lankan Navy is well aware of the boundaries of our territorial waters,” Captain Senerath said.
