Rheinmetall receives a major order for artillery ammunition

Possibly triggered by the high consumption of ammunition in Ukraine and the changed security awareness caused by the war, an unnamed NATO state has concluded a framework agreement with Rheinmetall in the mid three-digit million euro range for 155 mm artillery ammunition. As the company has announced, the South African subsidiary Rheinmetall Denel Munition is to supply 155mm M2005 V-LAP (Velocity Enhanced Long Range Artillery Projectile) projectiles, M92 modular propellant charges and various fuses as part of the five-year framework agreement. Photo: Rheinmetall According to Rheinmetall, the Assegai M92 tactical propellant charges reduce barrel erosion and muzzle flash. The Assegai artillery product family is designed according to the specifications of the NATO Joint Ballistics Memorandum of Understanding (JBMoU) and qualified according to STANAG guidelines. Propellant charges not only determine the firing range but also the barrel wear. Photo: Rheinmetall The M2005 HE V-LAP shell from the Assegai family is one of the top products in modern artillery technology and enables the engagement of soft targets and unarmored vehicles as well as the disruption of logistical supply lines beyond close range. The M2005 round can be used with appropriate NATO standard fuzes and JBMoU-compatible modular charge systems and can be fired from any compatible 155mm weapon system. Ground suction reduction and missile support increase projectile range without special operational and logistical requirements.
