‘Pakistan cannot remain ignorant of its defense’

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday has said that in view of the changing scenario in the region and being the front-line state in the war against terrorism, Pakistan cannot remain oblivious to its defense.

'Pakistan is committed to defeating terrorism and extremism and under unremitting changes, Pakistan knows how to defend its territory tooth and nail.'

The president expressed these views during his separate meetings with Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman and Admiral Noman Bashir, Chief of the Naval Staff at the Presidency on Monday.

'Our armed forces will be equipped with the latest technology and equipment,' Zardari said.

Sources say that the Air Chief took the president in confidence regarding war exercises being conducted and preparations of the JF-17 Thunder fighter planes.

Suleman apprised the president about the operational preparedness and role of the Air Force.

Sources say that during the meeting, President lauded the role of PAF in destroying major hideouts of militants adding they targeted their enemies with minimum overall damage.

Admiral Noman Bashir, Chief of the Naval Staff also called on President Asif Ali Zardari in the Presidency and discussed matters pertaining to professional capabilities of the naval forces.

The Naval Chief apprised the president about the various steps and projects undertaken to equip Pakistan's Navy with latest technologies. -Online
