what's so impressive about this demo? From the video it seems to be a very primitive type of air defense capability. Good for low altitude slow moving targets only. what will be it's usefulness in modern warfare? may be the navy knows its full utility in 2020 and onwards.

Useless exercise tbh. What is the utility of shoulder fired SAMS in the navy? Rather install some long rang SAMs on Naval platforms to secure Pakistan economic zone and sea lines.
Yes that MANPAD is meant for low flying AC. Will be useful in taking out drones.
Using costly missiles for cheap targets is an overkill.

For haters: If such a capability is with Armenia, they would have not lost much of their assets.
Its a must required capability in modern warfare. Sadly many here don't understand such stuff and only focuses on long range SAMs. Effectively everything has it's own importance.

Yes but issue is Marines have them for 15 years now. At least 15 years if not more. Time to make sure not only to increase Marines size but also induct at least medium range systems with them or likes of PANTSIR and other such systems.
In warfare, every weapon has its own utility, would you like to kill a bird with AA gun?
By logic in this thread, what is the utility of the light weapons carried by soldiers in battlefield?
We always show knee-jerk reaction in such circumstances without thinking that in today's warfare there are lot of utilities at the disposal of enemy and with us and to be counter by appropriate. We could not afford to shot down a low cost cheap Indian drone with a million dollar missile.
At Ceasefire Line in Kashmir our soldiers accomplished such tasks with bullets and even not with shoulder fired and they are well trained to use the matching weapons.
