Slovak Defense Company Konstrukta Defence unveils its new 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzer DIANA at MSPO 2015, the International Defence Industry Exhibition in Poland which takes place in Kielce, Poland, from the 1 to 4 September 2015.
New DIANA 155mm 52 caliber tracked self-propelled howitzer at MSPO 2015 International Defence Industry Exhibition in Kielce,Poland.
The Diana is based on a new tracked armoured chassis with an armoured turret mounted in the center of the chassis. The suspension consists of each side of seven road wheels with the drive sprocket at the front and the idler at the rear.
This system has been developed for the export market and essentially consists of the complete turret of the ZTS 155 mm self-propelled gun-howitzer Zuzana, normally mounted on an specially modified and armoured Tatra 8 × 8 wheeled chassis. The DIANA can run at a maximum road speed of 60 km with a maximum cruising range of 650 km.
The main armament consists of one 155mm 52 caliber which can fire standard NATO ammunitions. The vehicle carries a total of 80 projectiles and charges with 40 rounds ready to fire in the turret and 40 rounds in the chassis. When travelling, the 155 mm/45 calibre ordnance is held in a travel lock and when not required, folds forwards onto the glacis plate of the tracked chassis.
For its self-protection, a 12.7mm machine is mounted on the top of the turret and four smoke grenade discharger are mounted on each side at the front of the turret.
Due to the installation of an automatic loader, a maximum rate of fire of 5 rds/min can be achieved or 13 rounds in 3 minutes. Using manual loading, a maximum rate of fire of two round every 1 minute can be obtained.
Standard equipment of the DIANA includes firing control system which is linked with digital maps. The main weapon can be used for direct and indirect fire. For direct fire the main gun is fitted with aiming system including TV camera, thermal image camera and laser range finder. The DIANA can fire from a range of 5 to 41 km.
