Jack Ma’s surprise visit ignites speculation

The inside story is that Jack Ma was sent to Islamabad to deliver a message unofficially from the Chinese to the military junta.

Smarten up or they’ll pull back.
They can sent that through normal diplomatic channels

He came for 23 hours, didn't meet a single businessman or govt official, but still it heralds a new era of investment? Right.
He is obviously meeting people

Anyways, unless and until we fix the basics of the country, nothing is going to happen even if Bezos himself comes and sits here.
Jack Ma is excommunicado from the ANT Group and currently only holds a minority stake of 3.5%. These days he is a guest lecturer and travels, he recently visited Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Nepal and Pakistan. The purpose of his visit is unclear but sources claim its personal.

I think he is scouting new business opportunities

He came to meet Shabaz, like how Mexico is doing - inviting Chinese companies to manufacture in Mexico and giving them tax breaks - Im sure Shabaz has similar thoughts in mind. He said he would make us a maufacturing hub.

Then logic and reason beg one question..

Why would a Chinese Billionaire come to a hasty visit in Pakistan in personal capacity??

He has hundreds of places to go to, some fancy place like Turks and Caicos Islands or Trinidad and Tobago, or Bahamas or some other place..

Why pakistan.. in middle of a political turmoil?
Free drugs

If the visit is personal & he didn’t interact with any officials, why all these speculations? There’s no question Pakistan has immense potential but the strategic bottleneck that is its army leadership and lethargic political class will ensure Pakistan continues to be a begging bowl.

Because this is what Pakistanis do best. The guy spent less than 24 hours in Pakistan (and who can blame him), but it's a sad state of affairs when all people have is vain hope that someone like him will happily invest billions in a place like Pakistan :)
