Israeli forces targets farmers and fishermen in Gaza
February 28, 2016 - 1:50 PM
AhlulBayt News Agency - The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Sunday morning opened fire at Palestinian farmers and fishermen, south and north of the besieged Gaza Strip.
According to local sources, Israeli border soldiers opened fire from watchtowers at Palestinian farmers working their lands south of Gaza, particularly to the east of al-Farrahin neighborhood in Khan Younis.
Meanwhile, Israeli gunboats also opened fire from large guns in the morning at fishermen and their boats off the northwestern coast of Gaza City.
Local sources said the fishing boats were attacked off the shore of al-Waha area, north of Beit Lahiya district
Since it accepted an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire agreement in 2014, the Israeli occupation army has committed several violations in Gaza, including daily gunfire attacks on farmers and fishermen.
In line with the 1993 Oslo Accords, Palestinian fishermen are entitled to 20 nautical miles of fishing grounds; however, Israel restricts the fishermen to six nautical miles or less, where the catch is almost completely diminished and the fishermen are barely able to work.
