Development work on the A-50U commenced some years ago and State Tests started on September 10, 2008, using Russian Air Force A-50 '37 Red' as a prototype. The main element of the modernisation involves replacing the outdated analogue equipment with a new, digital avionics suite supplied by Russia's Vega Radio Engineering Corporation JSC. Notable improvements include: faster data processing, enhanced signal tracking and improved target detection. Crew rest, toilet and galley facilities are also included in the upgrade.

Interesting philosophies, India do not shows the interior of their AWACS A-50, is it the same model of A-50 or Indian use different

No its not the same model, Indians use A-50 with Israel upgrades, the A-50U upgrades are only for the Russian air force.

^ The IAF use the A-50EI with Isreali upgrades. Have to say much prefer the IAF's A-50 (inside and out) not to mention the IAF's A-50 is a better AWACS:

And have to say I am really surprised thar Russia is realsing such pics- only these 3 pics have ever been released of the interior of their A-50 and that too I think it was IAI not the IAF.

Hey Arzamas,

amazing pictures you posted here. It's more than surprising they released these pics. You got any more of those or some detailed description of what we see here?

Thanks

Didn't like the interiors, Russians like it rough.

It is more than that. A lot of systems look analog and not digital. They obviously do the job but the operator has more work load.

Yep, seems more like of older Su 30 cockpit with lot many analog plugs and switches so as meters.
