Huawei's HarmonyOS to power Volkswagen cars in China

Ro, 18 May 2023

According to Financial Times sources, Volkswagen is in talks with Huawei to bring HarmonyOS to its cars sold in China. And given Chinese consumers' strong favor for homegrown technology and VW's software woes, it makes a lot more sense for VW to seek partnership with Huawei. In the opposite direction, Seres dropped HarmonyOS for Android Auto for its cars sold in Europe.

Interestingly enough, one of the sources says that Volkswagen hasn't limited its options to just Huawei. Reportedly, the German automaker is looking for a long-term partner in China in general, but Huawei seems to be on top of the list with its push for HarmonyOS ecosystem.

Volkswagen's software is often seen as lagging compared to other EV competitors, especially in China, where the EV market is booming and competition is fierce. Even Huawei is now competing with its own car brand in the country.

That’s fake news. Extremely unlikely that VW just uses Huawei OS. That makes no sense. Huawei 2.0 kernel is Android 10. If anything VW will use genuine android not proprietary android.

It's a propaganda video.

Germans are very cunning in business, they know how to maximize profits with brainwashing videos, deceiving others

The Russians used to think that without gas from Russia, the German economy would collapse. And now, nothing has happened, the German economy is fine.

Now the Chinese believe that without the Chinese market, German industry would not exist.

Germans play the whole world with this cheap PR. The moment you believe you know Germany's weakness, the truth is you're just a dairy cow helping the Germans make money.
VW is not competitive electric. VW software for EV sucks they recently fired the entire management of the own software company.
VW probably wants Huawei expertise to develop software so something copying BYD.

Do you have any proof?
What proof? The FT article mentions VW intention to cooperate with Huawei. They seek to develop a software suite for EVs. That’s all. I said extremely unlikely VW will choose a proprietary android. That runs against industrial logics.

Shhh......you don't know what Beijing know.

VW would rather use a proprietary platform developed from a open-source code and paid Huawei and instead of using the open source as is, because Harmony OS is so much better than the Android they were based on.

You can't prove it's a fake news as you claimed, besides, the article says that Huawei's HarmonyOS power Volkswagen cars in China, it's not for all Volkswagen cars

Relax bro. I don’t need to prove. It’s the standard praxis the news site should include the source, not the readers. Yes I called it faked news. After I quick scan the news on the internet. Because despite the claim in the article, the original article in FT did not mention it. VW did not mention it, neither Huawei. But ok if Huawei manages it to sell it to VW then congrats.
