Google has been named the world’s most valuable brand, knocking Apple into second place for the first time since 2011 in Brand Finance’s Rankings. Apple’s lack of innovation is to blame according to the study from Brand Finance. Apple just made a comeback in the last quarter in terms of sales but its recognition as an innovator seems to be gone.

Google on the other hand, made full use of the opportunity this year. Ever rising dominance in search and ads revenues also helped it. Google secured the top spot after a 24% yearly increase saw the brand valued at $109 billion, according to the Brand Finance Global 500 list.

After five years being on the top spot, Apple dropped to second place after its brand value plunged 27% to $107 billion.

The report has cited Apple’s “failure to maintain technological advantage” particularly under increased pressure from the competitor brands such as Samsung and Huawei. Whereas, Google remains “largely unchallenged in its core search business” as advertising revenues increased 20% in 2016.

Just two weeks ago, a separate report from media buying firm Zenith Media pegged Google as the world’s biggest media player, controlling $60 billion in ad spend in the U.S. alone.

Similar to last year, Amazon is the third most valuable brand in the world and is worth $106 billion. Facebook and Samsung also ranked within the top 10 most valuable brands. Nearly all of the top ten most valuable brands belong in the tech industry.
