Foreign Minister's faux pas may affect relation with Malaysia

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's formation of the cabinet was hailed as a pack of surprises. Her move to install women in important cabinet positions was acclaimed as it was a bold move. But their performances so far have been depressing.

One example is Foreign Minister Dipu Moni who was thought to be a knowledgeable person. True, she is a physician and has a degree from Johns Hopkins, but her performance so far has been lamentably poor.

She has embarrassed the country by making uninformed and irresponsible comment about Malaysia. She said that Malaysia's decision to revoke visas of the Bangladeshi workers was linked to Kuala Lumpur's opposition to Bangladesh putting the war criminals to trial.

Does the foreign minister know about ILO's warning that more than 50 million workers globally will be thrown out of employment because of the global economic meltdown. Malaysia is a country hit hard by the meltdown and it will certainly not sacrifice its own workers to accommodate foreign workers.

Dipu Moni has caused irreversible damage to bilateral ties between Malaysia and Bangladesh with her ill judged statement. Malaysia has strong financial, political and diplomatic clout with world capitals. Bangladesh may have to lose the Malaysian labour market because of such indiscretion.

The European workers are demonstrating to protest the presence of migrant workers. They are asking the governments to deport all jobless migrants. The United States has kept in abeyance the issuance of HI-B visas given to skilled workers and asked companies receiving cash from the government to axe foreign workers first before laying off American workers.

Besides, her silence of the foreign minister over Myanmar erecting barbed wire fencing and amassing its troops along Bangladesh border is mysterious.

Home Minister Sahara Khatun practically witnessed the mindless killing inside BDR headquarters. She unwittingly allowed a gruesome act being enacted by not asking to see the senior army officers before dealing with the rebels.

These are the performance records of two most important cabinet ministers of Sheikh Hasina.

Its not that she did not know that her comments going against interest of Bangladesh and living of hundred of thousands of people. She had made such comments at the instruction of her boss who running the country and boss of her boss who runs India.

Can anyone expect anything better from this govt? When Indian official called Bangladesh "buffer state" she silently supported that. Imagine who will benefil in long run if Malaysia dont take Bangladeshi manpower?

Basically, it seems Dipu Moni is totally lost in foreign ministry.
Its kinda tricky to be the boss in that office, as most of the people who works there are the best of the best in the civil administration. Either you need somebody very sharp there or you need somebody very senior. This is still a mens world ...

Exactly and if anyone thinks that her comments against Malaysian GOVT, Chatra Leaguer's gruesome/heinious murders of JI/Shibiries, moral degradation through illegal appointments, grafting and crimes like what bring nation toward downward spiral are isolated cases then he is living either in denial or foolish paradise. Having super power in ISRO/IND's hand now, there couldn't be a better time for it to pursue the case of making BD isolted from Islam and Muslim world. Indains with extreme shrwed and cunningness are leveraging their resources just to achieve that goal, which would break our national will, moral and pave them to eat us like Sikim afterwords. What a scheme ! First create descent through language movement then keep up pressure through AWAMY creation, six point's formation and break PAK up through creative chaos by leveraging them. Later enter phase two to remove the fortress of Islam to eat it up. Who can now say that Islam isn't dying in BD and break up of PAK is a Malu's conspiracy that correlates with their buddy's mind set of 'Divide and rule' and Jamaaties are wrong in their prediction?
