Fascinating photos reveal life in Iran before the revolution
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/t...nning-photos-reveal-life-Iran-revolution.html

From students sporting mullet haircuts and flares to colourful VW Beetles careering down tree-lined avenues into central Tehran - surprising images of Iran, taken before the revolution, have emerged online.
The stunning photos of life across the vibrant country in the 60s and 70s portray a seemingly cosmopolitan kingdom on the brink of change.
Locals are pictured doing the 'Tehran twist' to Iranian rock 'n' roll bands, families sunbathe by a swimming pool and mosques and bazaars still popular today are also caught on camera, revealing the tension between modern and traditional influences tussling for supremacy.
The 1979 revolution saw the ousting of King Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and the instalment of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini - a shift that would have long-lasting and far reaching implications.
In 2015, following a historic nuclear deal and the lifting of economic sanctions against Iran by the US, the UK, France, China, Russia and Germany, many travel industry experts have pointed to the epic scenery and rich cultural attractions of the country as ripe for tourist exploration this year.
Now as the international gaze rests on Iran once more, MailOnline Travel rounds up some archive images of this fascinating country, which has long been shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding.

Unless being naked; nude beaches, bars and night clubs are yard stick, Iran is more moderate than any other country in middle east and south asia.

Cannot believe how it changed. Very sad in indeed.
Religion has blinded whole of Humanity creating barriers of hate and supremacy.

Have you been in Iran before and after revolution? you know how Iran looks like now? you have analyzed Iran before and after revolution through some photos? and how you concluded that the problem is religion?

freedom and soverighty lies in banning usury and real currency(gold and silver).
laws are applied so no one harms other or themselves.

I am sure there are alot of women that wear a dress , in private parties :coffee: need to be invited

Iran will find it self at its own pace

They are images of the westernised elite.
Don't be daft. Those dancing girls in pink and yellow, "the westernized elite"?

And I'll tell you something else: in the 1970s these "westernized" Iranian students were the most radical Islamists in D.C. They wore the latest fashions, drove expensive sports cars, parked illegally, and ranted on about U.S. imperialism while taking all the poli-sci and psychology courses they could with the aim of establishing Iranian-led hegemony, waving religion as their banner. They were sure that with their education, arms, focus, and other Iranians' comparative naiveté they would succeed and so far they have been right, yes?

Carefully taken pictures of the mostly rich-class seems "better", but if you look at the statistics - life has improved ALOT since the revolution.
That's cr*p:

GDP per-person peaked in 1976 (thanks to the 1973 oil price shock) then went into decline that accelerated sharply with the Revolution and Iran-Iraq War, despite the fact oil then spiked even further upward. GDP/pp has not yet recovered from its 1976 high.

that's odd; why is it different from this?

Iran's GDP per capita peaked in 2011 before crashing down due to sanctions. Iran's GDP per Capita was 4 times that of Turkey in 1980's before being affected by the Iran-Iraq war.

I think this was the best picture taken during that era, Ayatollahs used to kiss th hands of Farah Bahlawi day and night because it's their queen.

I feel they are going to do the same to Mariam Rajavi once she rules Iran.

No idea. The 1991-2013 parts of the two charts appear to be the same. Check World Bank data, then you can be sure.

At a guess, your chart appears to be in current dollars whereas the chart I linked to is in constant dollars (adjusted for inflation, which was severe from 1974-1986 or so).
Yes you need to check constant dollars. Dollar in 1970-es had much more value than today.

Here constant dollar chart:
