DPM Teo calls on India's Defence Minister
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean called on Indian Defence Minister A K Antony in New Delhi today, where both parties reaffirmed the warm defence relations between Singapore and India, and discussed regional security developments.
Mr Teo also called on Home Minister P. Chidambaram during his visit.
This is Mr Teo's fourth visit to India as Minister for Defence since he first visited in 2003 where he signed the Defence Cooperation Agreement which provides for cooperation in a wide range of activities between the two countries.
Since then, bilateral interactions between the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and Indian Armed Forces (IAF) have grown in scope and depth to include joint exercises, service-level staff talks and cross-attendance of courses. There are also regular policy dialogues between the two defence establishments.
Mr Teo will remain in India, in his capacity as President of the Singapore National Olympic Council, to attend the 19th Commonwealth Games.
