  • Notification says committee may take assistance of any investigating agency.
  • Audio features two conversations between Najam, PTI candidate PP137, middleman.
National Assembly (NA) Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf on Wednesday set up a special committee to investigate the audio of former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar’s son — who can be heard selling a PTI ticket to a candidate of the Punjab provincial assembly, claiming that his father had to work hard to get the ticket sanctioned — according to a notification from the assembly.
The notification stated that Mohammad Aslam Bhootani has been appointed as chairman of the committee, which includes Shahida Akhtar Ali, Muhammad Abubakar, Muhammad Barjees Tahir, Sheikh Rohale Asghar, Syed Hussain Tariq, Naz Baloch, and Khalid Hussain Magsi.
The committee may take the assistance of any investigating agency and would submit its report to the National Assembly, the notification stated.
Last week, leaked audio purportedly features two separate telephonic conversations between former CJP's son and Abuzar Chadhar — a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate from PP137 — and Mian Uzair, a middleman between the two.
The three could be heard allegedly talking about the provincial assembly ticket recently issued by PTI.
In the audio, Najam can be heard asking Uzair for Rs12 million for the party ticket.
In one of the leaked audios, Najam Saqib allegedly asked Abuzar Chadhar to pay a visit to his father to thank him for a favour, while in the other, he argues with Mian Uzair over money.
On April 29, the former CJP — in a statement given to Geo News programme "Naya Pakistan" — confirmed that the voice in the audio call was of his son, Najam.
"It is my son’s voice in the leaked audio," the former top judge said when asked if it was his son in the purported call.
A day after the leak, the Imran Khan-led party launched an inquiry into the matter.

Committee to consider summoning Najam Saqib prior to FIA investigation on Friday; may summon SC registrar

The special committee probing the alleged audio leak of Najam Saqib, son of former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar, has decided to refer the matter to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) after a meeting held on Tuesday.

In the audio clip, Najam Saqib can be allegedly heard discussing about his cut with a ticket-holder, Abuzar Chadar.

Subsequently, the National Assembly passed a motion demanding the formation of a special parliamentary committee to investigate the alleged audio leak.

The meeting of the special committee established had been summoned by National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf today.

Chairing the meeting, Aslam Bhutani said that the committee will forward the record of the proceedings of the House to the Supreme Court and investigate the issue of the audio leak.

The moot decided to write a letter to the Ministry of Interior Affairs to formally request the FIA to take over the investigation.

The committee is to issue instructions to the interior ministry regarding the FIA's investigation and will seek a report from the FIA in 10 days.

Furthermore, Najam Saqib is also to be summoned by the committee. In this regard, Chairman Aslam Bhutani said that Saqib and the PTI ticket holders can come to the committee and share their stance on the matter.

However, the committee members remained divided on whether the FIA investigation should follow Saqib's summoning or vice versa. Another meeting of the special committee is to decide this matter on Friday.
