Metro - Clinton urges India to buy American defence goods

WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is making a pitch for India to buy defence equipment from American companies.

Spokesman P.J. Crowley told reporters that Clinton's message to Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony in a meeting Tuesday was that the United States has "the finest military hardware in the world, and, if India is upgrading its defence capabilities, they should buy American."

Crowley says it is possible that India soon will make decisions about buying a number of defence items, including fighter jets.

He says Clinton and Antony spent part of their meeting discussing "a mutual interest in expanding our defence partnership."

wow now she is a sales women

i don't want american hardware in india,i hope MoD won't accept any offer from them from now on

India already buying expensive defence goods from America worth billions , that includes P-8i , C-130J , VVIP planes , Harpoon missiles and many -many more..

but why then the MMRCA jet deal is more focus on..

The idea that India will be a global power is false. As indicated by this example and many others, United States is quickly making its way into the Indian sub continent. I am definite, however, that India will indeed be a very large economic power but trade flow through different sea routes will mainly be provided by the United States Navy.

USA buys a lot from India and supports India with top of the art military hardwares so in return India should support American Goods.

How come there are NO Walmart stores in India but plenty in China which the USA considers an enemy state ?

Walmart or Tesco means end of many mom & pop stores. Since they are entrenched interests and certainly the ineffective Indian ways would be effected.

In a small word, It is protectionism that many of fellow Indians complain about US (with regard to H1-B visas or other outsourcing stuff).

There are many sectors where India does not allow more than 49% FDI or in some cases as low as 10%.

Pakistan is also a friend of America, do you have walmart there? Retails stores are not owned by the govt. walmart will setup stores wherever it wants and not where the American govt wants

Why do we need to buy from them.. they even put restriction on decommissioned ship .. they have gone to the extent on which water it has to sail... why the hell we have to buy from them... still these people are buying only from them...

Americans need cash, and they also need an ally to contain China, also to cut soviet interest in India, it is one stone for three birds. They will be more than happy to sell anything except F-22. India can bargain hard for price and restricted usage conditions because it is a buyer's market.
