The DF-41 (East Wind-41) is a solid-fueled mobile intercontinental ballistic missile with operational range of 15,000 kilometres (9,300 mi) with a speed of mach 25 (or about 20,000 miles per hour). It can hit anywhere in the continental USA within 30 min with precision guided (nuclear as well) missiles that fly at around 25x the speed of sound and are also highly maneuverable making it extremely difficult to near impossible to intercept.

I hope one day the technology advancement will provide assistance to relieve the weight loads from the soldiers, reduce the heavy loads esp. those in highlands such as the new exoskeleton, lighter weaponry and so on.

And for folks coming from the lowlands, breathing at altitude of 3,300 meters above sea level and higher is taxing... at 4,000m it's really a struggle due to the thin oxygen level. In 2013 I visited Lhasa (altitude of around 3,300m), then moved to Gyantse by bus taking the long, old road, on the way passed some high points up to 4,500~4,700m, felt very dizzy to down the bus to see the beautiful lake along the way when the bus stopped a while, just too tough such altitude for lowlanders, even to just carry one's own body weight. Best to visit plateau when one is still young and fitness is still in prime state :-) yet the highlands are very beautiful and you won't see them elsewhere...

The Story of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea -- The Final Battle

* * * * *

Why did China have to participate in the Korean War?

IN THE HAN DYNASTY, there was a saying that "Defending the Si-Yi or Four Foreign Soils of Barbarians", which meant pushing forward the national defense line as far as possible and putting the warning line of the enemy on the barbarian soil outside the country. In this way, the fighting would only be carried out in such desolate and uninhabited areas, which would not affect the farming areas mainly inhabited by the Han people and reduce the impact on production and society. [IMO in modern times the "Si-Yi" may be interpreted as the bordering sphere of influence.]

For example, if the War Of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression had been able to stabilize the front line on the Korean Peninsula, instead of allowing the Japanese aggressors to invade large areas of Northeast, North, East and central China, would the losses have been much reduced? This is the consideration of resisting the United States and aiding the North Korea.

WHAT HAPPENS if you give up the so-called "the Si-Yi lands"? Sima Guang lost Lanzhou in Song Dynasty. As a result, Tangut immediately linked up with the Tubo, which was otherwise almost impossible to achieve. The Ming Dynasty abandoned the Monan and Hetao regions. As a result, its capital city was under martial law, and Fen River Valley in Shanxi Province was plundered, and the whole North China was unable to carry out development and stable production. In contrast, the national defense pressure of the Han, Tang and Qing Dynasties, which carried out "guarding the Si-Yi", was much smaller than that faced by the Song and Ming Dynasties.

IN REALITY, WHY would the US cross the oceans to control Europe and Japan and South Korea? The idea is to turn the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans into their own giant lakes, squeezing rivals' space so that if they fight they can ensure that their own mainland [CONUS] is not affected.

Even if China has the comparable military might as the US, but there are Japan and South Korea and the First Island Chain blocking China's doorstep, even if the US is not afraid of a fight. Anyway, the US is on the other side of the ocean, Japan and South Korea will suffer destructions first if they want to engage in war. And fight will certainly spread to the core areas of China, thus it will suppress China to not dare to talk about war. When the opponent uses "Defending the Si-Yi" to deal with China, then China will really realize its power.

As a result of resisting the US and aiding the North Korea, China's security border is not locked in the Yalu River but in the "38th Parallel Line" of the Korean Peninsula, pushing the national defense cordon far to the south of the "38th Parallel". Imagine if China were not fighting against the US and aiding North Korea, if there were no North Korea as a buffer state, and if China's Northeast regions were directly facing the threat of US power, then what development will northeast China talk about? In fact, even before the end of the Korean War, China had begun a vigorous "Five-year Plan", and the construction focus was also on the northeast. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the economic development was not affected by the war at all. At the same time, there were even enough troops to fight against bandits in the whole country and march into the vast northwest region.

China's participation in the Korean War is the best modern interpretation of the military policy of "Defending the Si-Yi". If you don't see that, you're not in a position to talk about the significance of the Korean War. For those to think of the Korean War as "Other people's war", is simply showing a simple minded folk unable to comprehend strategy.

Enemy on the doorstep: China's involvement in the Korean War

A 50-minute documentary style footage explaining WHY China decided to get involved into the Korean War

As many in the outside world may never realize, the Chinese leaders back then thought very deeply back and forth about China's involvement into that war with all its consequences... finally they decided that for China the "costs of war is smaller than the costs of staying away!"

On October 1, 1950, a large crowd filled Tiananmen Square in Beijing. They were celebrating the first anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. However, the nascent state received letters from the leaders of two of its neighbors on the day – leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Il Sung and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, asking for military assistance. How did this come about? CGTN's documentary "Enemy on the Doorstep: China's Involvement in the Korean War" shows you what was behind the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, which defined history.
