China testing hypersonic bullets on live targets, may eventually lead to the game-changing development of railgun-based anti-materiel rifles

Hypersonic bullet is more for against modern body kelvar armour. A m1 garand rds has far more damage and penetrating power compare to a M16 Nato standard but why are we going backwards with lesser power rds in modern times? Concentrated firepower overwhelm penetration but as science improve and the extensive used of body armour. We are going back towards penetration and precise hitting penetration rather than concentrated firepower to overwhelm enemies.

Hypersonic bullet is more for against armour targets but its not gonna do more damage if is not the ending impact of the target.
We already have 5.56 and 7.62 rounds that can pierce armor even plates besides Kevlar. The reason for M16 adoption was because of able to carry more rounds and less recoil compared to the Garand which was also heavier. I mean the U.S. troops used M14s for range and penetration in Iraq and Afghanistan, but only carried 20 rounds. They are still going to use it for penetration, precision, range, and concentrated firepower depending on the soldier if he's carrying a machine gun or a sniper rifle.
