China has right to declare ADIZ in the South China Sea
By Peter Lee on July 7, 2016 in China, Japan, Southeast Asia

The Philippines and Vietnam already have Air Defense Identification Zones in the South China Sea. So why can’t China have one? It is legal under international law to unilaterally declare an ADIZ and it is a face-saving way too for Beijing to keep an internationally recognized China presence in the South China Sea if the Hague tribunal rules against its jurisdictional claims. Judging by the experience in the East China Sea, China has tried to use ADIZ as an instrument of engagement, not aggression.

There are already at least two Air Defense Identification Zones (ADIZs) in the South China Sea … and none of them are Chinese.

One is a Philippine Air Defense Identification Zone (PADIZ) and the other is a Vietnam Air Defense Identification Zone (VADIZ). Then would a PRC ADIZ (People’s Republic of China Air Defense Identification Zone) in the South China Sea (SCS) really be so bad?

have you bothered checking the link you provided?

that is not working.

the author of the article obviously a liar.

No. there is no Vietnam ADIZ in the South China Sea.

but there will be one if China declares ADIZ.

the green line: Vietnam ADIZ would cover the large part of the Sea, including Spratlys and Paracels.

you are welcome.

If you are a good boy and allow US bases and troops in your territory you can declare the whole indian ocean. In fact I think this will happen soon--that US troops will station in India.

Those are peace time agreements, do not talk as if you are fighting against Usa.

China is a rising country which looks to cut deals with almost every country if it gets profit.

If you have guts to fight Usa first you need to cut all ties and form a block against Usa then we will see.

We know the mettle of Chinese and how to deal with them. It is appalling to see Chinese who assume themselves as a power which is taking on the USA, the reality is you looking to play second fiddle to the only super power .

And everyone else has the right to give a damn about it

Others give a damn or not; once the capability is there, even those who do not give a damn (by the way, I am not sure as to how to define 'not to give a damn') will be monitored and tracked.

I just wish nobody gives a damn when China enforces SCS ADIZ.

It is coming. :D

Yes india has right to enforce ADIZ in IOR!

Yes. As if India has not done unofficially.

1. The only reason is why India did not do it is because of its Military Budget constraint.
To declare one, India will constantly have a needs to scramble its fighter jets to intercept those intruders. For example, recently the India media reported that a China warplane a JH-7A fighter bomber intruded into its airspace at Aksai Chin (a disputed and unauthorised land curve up into empire by the Colonial British) and stayed there for more than an hour. If it is true, how did India military knew about all this unless she have been monitoring the area unofficially. And why didn't the Indian Military confirmed it. Simple: If the Indian Military were to announced it, it will have NO CHOICE but to respond by sending its warplane inside China.

2. We all knows in here the real performance and lifespan of a SU-30MKI e.g. the thrust vector has only a lifespan of 500 hours. (Maintenance costs will be high due to its lifespan). China PLAAF has already retired its SU-27 delivered in 1997 due to its limited lifespan.

3. What is India doing setting up those radar stations at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands? Don't tell me, India did it because she is still serving the British crown and sing "God save the Queen".

So the question is how do you know China has NOT been monitoring them and the claimant states?

Vietnam has lost many of its plane attempting to patrol the area e.g. recently a VAF SU-30MK2 went missing.

You don't need to declare an ADIZ to monitor and track. Let's see how China grows the balls to do anything beyond monitoring and tracking.

It is related capability build-up on par with national capacity. It is a strategic move to declare an ADIZ because, in essence, ADIZ is a unilateral act of enforcing rules on others.

The decision to declare an ADIZ will be based on regional situation and China's risk calculations.
