The AMX-10RC Renove, or AMX-10RCR, is a French reconnaissance and fire support vehicle. It is an upgraded version of the AMX-10RC, that was adopted by the French Army in 1979. A total of 284 original AMX-10RC vehicles were delivered to the French Army. Between 2005 and 2010 a total of 256 vehicles were upgraded to the AMX-10RCR standard in order to keep them operational until 2015-2020. In the near future the AMX-10RCR vehicles are due to be replaced by a new armored reconnaissance and combat vehicle. French Army has a requirement for up to 300 new machines. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2018.

Upgrades includes add-on armor kit for a higher level of protection, Galix self-protection system and LIRE infrared jamming system. Upgraded AMX-10RCR tank destroyers are also fitted with a battlefield management information system, and identification friend or foe system. Automotive system upgrades include new automatic transmission and new suspension control system. However upgraded vehicles lost their amphibious capability.

The AMX-10RCR has seen service during various military conflicts. The main role of this vehicle is reconnaissance and fire support of friendly units. It can also escort convoys, patrol, and perform territorial defense tasks. The AMX-10RCR can engage armored vehicles, buildings, field fortifications and other targets. The original AMX-10RC was even called a tank destroyer. However this vehicle is not normally used to engage tanks. Even though it can penetrate front armor of the older tanks, such as T-55 and T-62, modern main battle tanks would be a tough nut for this vehicle.

Vehicle is armed with a GIAT F2 105 mm rifled gun. It fires APFSDS, HE, HEAT and smoke rounds. The range of effective fire is over 2 000 meters. A total of 38 rounds are carried for the gun.

The AMX-10RC has a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun. After the upgrade another 7.62 mm roof-mounted machine gun was added.

The AMX-10RCR can open fire just after 10 seconds when the target is spotted. Vehicle has a high first-round-hit rate. However it can fire the main gun accurately only when stationary, as the gun is not stabilized. Vehicle has got a panoramic commanders sight. It seems that it provides this vehicle a hunter-killer engagement capability, which is present on most modern main battle tanks and fire support vehicles.

Upgraded AMX-10RCR fire support vehicles are also fitted with a battlefield management information system, and identification friend or foe system.

Hull and turret are of welded aluminum armor construction. Upgraded vehicles were fitted with add-on armor kit for a higher level of protection. Vehicle withstands hits from medium-caliber weapons and artillery shell splinters. Cage armor can be fitted for protection against anti-tank rockets, such as RPGs. Upgraded AMX-10RCR vehicles were also fitted with Galix self-protection system and LIRE infrared jamming system. Vehicle also has an NBC protection system.

Vehicle is operated by a crew of four, including commander, gunner, loader and driver.

This fire support vehicle is based on a purpose-designed 6x6 wheeled chassis. It uses a number of automotive components of the AMX-10P infantry fighting vehicle. Automotive system upgrades include new automatic transmission instead of the manual one. It is possible that the old 280 horsepower engine was also replaced by a modern unit. Vehicle has a hydropneumatic suspension with adjustable ground clearance. The ground clearance can be adjusted from 0.6 to 0.2 m. Furthermore the vehicle can "sit", "stand", "kneel" or "lean" in any direction. Upgraded AMX-10RCRs have a new suspension control system. Vehicle is also fitted with a central tyre pressure system, which improves mobility over difficult terrain. Vehicle can continue to move when one or two tyres are totally destroyed. However upgraded vehicles lost their amphibious capability. The rear sprinkler and front breakwater were removed.

Why doesnt Pakistan get something similiar like these?

We really do lack in wheeled AFVs.

Its like PLA's PTL-02 Wheeled Tank Destroyer

Bronco continues to release interesting subjects from the People’s Liberation Army. From the kit, “The PTL-02 wheeled assault gun system was based on the ZSL-92 wheeled armored vehicle, integrated with matured weapon technologies including the Type 86 100mm towed anti-tank gun and the Type 88 MBT. The vehicle was designed to engage armored vehicles, bunkers, fortifications, and other stationary or moved targets. The PTL-02 has been fielded along with the ZSL-92 IFV and ZSL-92A APC in the PLA rapid reaction wheeled mechanized infantry troops. The PTL-02 is powered by a BF8L413F 4-stroke, 8-cylinder, turbo-charged, air-cooled diesel engine with a standard power of 320hp. The vehicle uses a mechanical gear box, with 9 forward gears and 1 reverse. Power assisted steering, independent suspension, and central inflating system are fitted as standard. However, the PTL-02 lacks the two rear propellers found on the ZSL-92, which suggests that the gun system is not amphibious.”

The Kit
As with most kits from the Hobby Boss line, the sprues are individually bagged and the more fragile parts have foam wrapped around them. There are nine sprues in tan plastic, a fret of photo etch, six rubber tires, one small sprue of clear parts, and decals for two vehicles, for a total of 270 parts. There’s no flash on the pieces, though I found the plastic to be a tad bit soft. There is a separate sheet with full color exterior call outs.

Assembly
Assembly is straightforward – there’s the body of the vehicle and the turret. The basis of the tank destroyer is the ZSL-92 wheeled armored vehicle which Hobby Boss has previously released in various versions. It goes together well, but you need to be careful when you assemble the wheel units. The drive shaft (piece A8) is a bit tricky. There is no interior to the vehicle, but the vehicle does have hatches that can be left either open or closed. Without an interior, I chose to keep the hatches closed. The only other challenge I ran into was the plastic frame over the large engine vent. A piece of photoetch rests on top of D7. Make sure it is square before the glue dries, or else the PE vent cover will not fit correctly. The rest of the exterior came together well. There are some small pieces, so watch out when you remove them from the sprue or the carpet monster may get them!

The turret, as with most plastic turrets, comes in two pieces that, for the most part, fit snugly. Like the vehicle, the turret has no interior, so I kept the hatches closed and didn’t even bother to glue the parts on the inside of the hatch. The only issue I had was with the range finder, which is a box that fits into the top of the turret. It was chore getting the clear plastic piece to fit, and the entire assembly really didn’t fit that well on the top of the turret. The rest of the turret went together easily. The commander’s machine gun is exquisite, a small kit within itself. The only challenge I found was the placement of K1, what I presume is some sort of hydraulic cylinder that would allow the weapon to elevate. I found its placement tricky. The assembled machine gun is one of the nicest I have seen but is very fragile, so set it aside before the cat or kid breaks it!

Finishing
I use Tamiya paints and the color call outs do show the Tamiya equivalents. The base color is dark yellow with two shades of green to complete the camouflage pattern.

I enjoy modeling many different subjects, so I applaud Hobby Boss for stretching the envelope and releasing all of these unique Chinese vehicles. My thanks to Squadron MMD, Hobby Boss, and IPMS-USA for giving me the opportunity to review this kit.

Its like PLA's PTL-02 Wheeled Tank Destroyer
If 'like' anything, it is the other way around. The PTL02 (sometimes referred as Type 02) was first introduced in 2002-2003. Its production for the Chinese army began in 2004-2005. Initial work on the AMX-10RC began in 1970; production began in 1976, and the first production vehicle was delivered in 1981.

PTL-02 was developed on the basis of the Type 92 wheeled armored vehicle and is fielded along with the Type 92 infantry fighting vehicles and Type 92 armored personnel carriers. I.e. it is an APC fitted with a gun turret.

The AMX-10RC is vehicle for (light) reconnaissance in dangereous environments and fire support, designed and build as such from scratch by GIAT (now part of Nexter). It is not a 'converted APC', though it does share some automotive components with the AMP-10P tracked APC.

The PTL-02 is more like a Renault VAB fitted with a gun turret.

The AMX-10RC is more like the Renault VBC-90 (which uses the same automotives and chassis as the VAB, but is a very different design alltogether)

The AMX-10RC is the direct successor to the Panhard EBR (Engin Blindé de Reconnaissance) Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle

The APC version was called EBR-VTT

Both were very similar to AMX-13/75 Modèle 51 light tank and AMX-13 VTT respectively
