Looks like the threats and arm twisting by USA is paying some dividend.

Until last year, Hasina was pivoting towards China as Bangladesh’s main development partner.

She was close to signing the Teesta contract - a giant water management scheme to save north west Bangladesh.

Under pressure, Hasina, unfortunately, seems to have caved in!

Maybe this is a short term pivot - until she secures another five year term. Then she will pivot back to China 🇨🇳

Pressure by USA means India will secure some vital strategic contracts.

Well done! Idiot YouTube peddlers! Uncle Sam just played you like a fiddle 🤣🤣😂😂😂

BD never looked at China as it's main development partner.

It used to be mainly Japan before China came into the equation in the last 5 years.

Hasina may just be waiting till after the 2023 "elections" before she announces what is a substantial contract with China for the Teesta Barrage. This is not probably a good time to sign this contract.

BD NEVER pivots towards one country and it will balance USA, India and China by playing them all off against each other, while medium powers like Japan and Turkey will also be involved in specifically economics and military side and so further diluting the "Big Three's" ability to influence BD.

Yes!

She doesn’t want to “upset” Uncle Sam just before an election.

Hence she is focusing on the goodies for India - to please USA.

And China goodies have to wait until 2024.

Once again, US meddling has delayed a vital project!!!

Delaying the signing of the contract is no big deal in the grand scheme of things.

We may see the official contract being signed in early 2024 after the "election" is over and BNP/opposition whining has died down due to the fact it was a BAL version of an election and not the one they wanted.

Things are looking good for BD and Hasina now as economic boom has resumed with higher exports, healthy domestic economy with tourist boom after opening of Padma Bridge and the completion of the road network in CHT and forex reserves started to rise again.
