The Afghan National Army (ANA) is to receive more Textron Commando Select 4x4 armoured vehicles.

Through the US Foreign Miltary Sales (FMS) programme the company was awarded a USD56.2 million firm-fixed-price contract for 55 more Commando Select platforms, Textron announced in late September.

This latest contract originated from a 2010 FMS. There have been 634 vehicles built and 623 in theatre - 11 were test assets - as well as in-country support for training and maintenance, Mike Gelpi, vice-president of land systems at Textron Systems Marine & Land Systems, told IHS Jane'son 1 October.

Vehicle deliveries are to begin in October and finish by February 2016, and the platforms include 36 with Objective Gunner Protection Kits, 15 with enclosed 40 mm/.50-calibre turrets, and four ambulance variants, the company said.
