Capt Sardar Izhar shaheed was defending Khalid Top, Kargil with only 12 of his troops when Indian army attacked his post with a huge strength. He, alongwith his men fought with enemy for 3 days and 3 nights giving a tough resistance without logistic and military support. Finally the enemy was able to over power them. He alongwith his men started to move backward slowly.
Now this part was narrated by an Indian soldier who was present on Khalid Top himself. He said that when Captain Sardar Izhar realized that Indians ...are getting close and that his men will get killed; he ordered the 12 of his men to run and he will give them cover fire and hold the Indian troops till they reach a safe point. He said that his men objected but he ordered them to leave. When his men left, Captain Sardar Izhar suddenly came out in the open and started firing at the Indian troops with fearsome eyes while reciting the Kalma in a louder voice. He said that he attacked us like a storm and for one moment the whole Indian force was shocked to see the act of valour of Captain Sardar Izhar. He further narrated that Captain Izhar kept on firing and reciting the Kalma for a long time and none of the Indian troops dared to face him. After some time, he ran out of bullets and seeing the opportunity, an Indian soldier shot a rocket at him which hit him directly in the stomach and he was blown into pieces.
When Captain Sardar Izhar Shaheed was brought to Pakistan from India, only his face and chest was left of him, the rest of his body was not present.
Captain Sardar Izhar Shaheed and Captain Sher Khan Shaheed (NH) were brought in the same plane to Rawalpindi. Captain Sher Khan Shaheed was awarded Nishan-e-Haider (NH) and Captain Sardar Izhar Shaheed was awarded Sitara-e-Jur'at (SJ) by the Government of Pakistan.
