In a first, two Indian institutes make it to world’s top 200

I'm pretty sure a combination of those is what matters. Dr. Tharoor had written an article about how all the campuses with larger student bodies in this country are generally teaching universities, and research happens in small specialized institutes, and thus we fail at rankings. For example...

In a first, two Indian institutes make it to world’s top 200

NCBS is a part of TIFR. TIFR has world class research standards, but does not have an undergraduate program. It barely has a post graduate program and an overwhelming majority of the students there are PhDs. So it really can't feature well in "university" rankings. Source: Worked at TIFR on a...

Indian Missiles - News, Developments, Tests, and Discussions

Does anyone know the reload time for an Akash launcher? The internet says it is about 12 minutes for a Buk system, so I'm guessing it would be pretty similar. I'm asking because in the case of a saturation attack (like operation Chengiz Khan), 3-4 launchers at an air force station, would be...

STEALTH FRIGATE: GRSE BAGS RS 20,000 CR ORDER FROM NAVY

I'll wait for more sources but this is huge!! The P17A program is finally getting underway. The cabinet clearance was in Feb this year so an order being placed as early as April is very fast and practically unheard of in the Indian defence scenario.

Mirage crashes in Somiani Pilot is safe

Cost does not imply safety. Whatever their other shortcomings, both the JF17 and Tejas have brilliant safety records.

Mirage crashes in Somiani Pilot is safe

If my count is right that's the sixth mirage crash in six months. PAF is having the same problems with its mirages as the IAF has with Mig 21s and Mig 27s. Could this be because of the heavy use of these aircraft in the ongoing operations in the tribal areas?

18 months flat from first cut to launch! We're getting faster at this! The P15A destroyers all took between 3-4 years for the same.

Dear Smriti Irani, stop giving my money to IITians

I'm currently studying in an IIT. Most of your perceptions are very wrong. This ToI fueled hatred towards the IITs needs to be addressed. I doubt I'll be able to change your minds but here goes. Most IITians go abroad: This is so incorrect it isn't even funny. Under 5% of a graduating batch...

Hot Test of CE-20 Cryogenic Rocket Engine for GSLV Mark III Successful

The first stage consists of two boosters of 525 tons each. That is what accelerates it out of the atmo. The cryogenic engine is for the final stage. ie, most of the rocket mass is detached.

What has LCA Tejas given to India?

Some intangible points: Over the last couple of decades, every IIT has got amazing CFD facilities, including HPC clusters. This is due to project funding via NAL, mainly due to the LCA program. My college (IIT Roorkee) got a wind tunnel as well. This equipment will be useful for quite some time...

India to Test Fire Canister Based Agni V ICBM in January - PM Modi likely to witness the Launch

I read in one of the articles that this launch was moved specifically so Prime Minister Modi could attend it. Don't you think that's a little wrong? Speeding up our deterrence is more important than a photo op
