We do have a an active GaN transistor program as well and quite pleasantly the amplifier power specs are 80W each! Which is comparable to anywhere in the world.however as far as conventional GaAs based designed are concerned one single amp delivers 10W

But then again, we should be concerned with one TRMM right ? And 1 TRMM delivers 80W let's say if there are 100 such TRMMs are there in any indian radar which mean a peak power of 8kW

Yeah,got that.So if the TRMMs can be miniaturized to the point where say 200 or so of those could be squeezed into the Uttam's antenna array unit,then its peak power would go through the roofs!!

But then again,with such level of output,the heat management will also become a big problem,especially when we are talking about a light fighter with limited space inside the radome.

Great!!I wasn't aware that there had been active R&D programs going on to make GaN transistors in our country!!Thanks for the info.So have these matured to the point where they can be into the antenna arrays yet??And what about the cooling requirements??

In my opinion,yes,the GaN can be used depending on efficient cooling provisions.As for the cooling is concerned,i ran into a paper from LRDE that mentioned the specifications of cooling requirement for instance- ethylene glycol+water coolant -<3kW. The coolant required to effectively take out roughly 2.6kW of heat from the radar

So in any case,if that paper is to be believed then the max peak power of the radar cant exceed 2.6kW

by the way,one last thing - about the Uttam AESA radar,can you confirm whether the individual TRMMs have got 4 elemets or 8??

Can't say at this moment,but judging by the disproportionately large nose diameter of the LCA (660mm if I remember correctly compared to about 550 mm of Rafale)) ,1200 wouldn't be too unreasonable given the power-plant can generate enough power.

You see there are a lot of things that one need to take care of, I.e if the radar sports a fully DBF architecture or not.secondly the max peak power of our AESA is limited to 2.6kW! Multiply this with effective aperture will roughly tell you it's range

A fully digital beam forming architecture increases both hardware and software complexities many fold.for instance you need to have ADC at every antennae and algorithms to control every antennae

You are talking about the antenna, what about the computation of the data recieved, the digital beams could be digitally shaped and directed, but what about the computational power to analyse it provide to the screen.

Sorry words limitation problem, what about the computation of the image returns back. I mean radar with a2a will have some algorithm and now for SAR another, to identify air target one and for ground another library, but there are limitation of the computational power provided small engine to support that

Well not sure about that because Signal processing in Embebded system is different that what i understand about the processing under x86, but any way the processing of the signal data returned back.
