Does it look WS-10 or WS-13?

If it is WS-10, then good news for JF-17.

Guizhou Aviation Industry Import/Export Company (GAIEC) has released photos of the production line for the JL-9 fighter trainer. These images indicate production of the jet with DSI is well underway.

What's the diff b/w this trainer and K-8 ?

JL-9 can fly twice as fast. Flies 10,000 feet higher. Probably better radar. And costs more.

JL-9: Mach 1.5 top speed
K-8: Mach 0.75 top speed

JL-9: Service ceiling about 52,000 feet
K-8: Service ceiling about 42,000 feet

JL-9: Pulse-doppler radar
K-8: not sure

JL-9: more expensive
K-8: $10 million each

JL-9: turbojet engine with 44.1kN of dry thrust (66.7kN afterburner)
K-8: turbofan engine with 16kN of dry thrust

Citations for engines.

Uses the same DSI design as JF-17, would be nice to have a Mach range jet trainer.

Nice, but these DSI-featuring aircraft are JL-9G for the Navy like this one ...

By the way there are few "dramatic" errors alone in the first post: it is neither a WS-10 - much too large for this tiny bird - nor a WS-13 - as used on the JF-17 ... and also not a WS-14, since the Kunlun is more or less dead.

As far as I know the current JL-9s use a WP-13F(C) with a maximum trust of 4,400kg without and 6,450kg with afterburner.

Isn't it kunlun III derivative that's a dead project? kunlun II turbojet finished development.

As far as I know development might have been finished but in the end either it was not reliable enough or the extra cost of a different supply chain was not worth the efforts. Said to be planned most of all for the improved J-8-version from the J-8C and later J-8F on at least the J-8F and derived JZ-8F are again using the WP-13BII turbojet again.

By looking into this picture I have a gut feeling that it may be a replacement for JF-17 twin seater :D
Just kidding
