Just change some names and you cant differentiate between Kerala n Sri Lankan dishes.

Best of the lot is Idiappams with spicy egg curry.

Hoppers and string hoppers do have connections to Kerala.. Not just cuisine but there are many other cultural similarities

Dont know why but Sri Lanka seems to be more similar to Kerala instead of Tamil Nadu which is closer!

I love food....Any food so long as they are vegetarians, chicken and fish only. @ShreddeR , I think the names are different regarding pronunciation, but the raw material/ingredients are same and the shapes and sizes are different from Kerala/Tamil Nadu??
@Gibbs
Can we have some knowledge about the street foods in SriLanka? As a tourist when I go to a new place, I search for good street food.

Sinhalese food is undeniably influenced by Kerala cuisine or vise versa

As far as i know Sri Lanka does not have a great street food scene like India and South East Asian countries do.. (The best imo)..

These are some of the stuff i recall

The most staple street food is the famous Kotthu roti.. There is even a song about it as @ChennaiDude had posted above.. :-)

Yes very much..

But most food have been localized over the years.. Like kroketjes are known as pan rolls or Chinese rolls these days and Bitter ballen as cutlets etc.. But the community do try to keep some of the recipes and names as authentic as possible

I have even seen certain people selling Lamprais as "lump rice"

Even kokis and Aasmi that @ShreddeR posted as Sinhalese food is actually influenced by the Dutch

In Sinhala cuisine mainly we eat rice, rice and rice...and we have a BIG variety of curries (we call them hodi) to accompany them

where did you get those translations? I think halapa and ila ada are different. We have both ada and halapa....
The reason for similaries between kerala and SL cuisine are mainly coconut, portugese influence for both, coastal region, and of course immigration between the two

yes,you are right in the use of coconut and coconut milk in both Kerala and srilankan dishes..

Not a song on Kotthu parotta (roti), but a song using it :P
You had already stolen our appam and idiappam..now looking for our porotta??
