GWADAR: The Chinese Consul General in Karachi, Ma Yaou, has said that his country is playing an important role in the development of the Gwadar port and making it fully functional is part of its efforts.

Speaking at a function at which three buses donated by the China Overseas Port Holding Company were handed over to the education department for local schools, he said Beijing would utilise all available resources for making Gwadar port the best port in the region. He said the Chinese company had determined its priorities for the welfare of local people, especially in the education and health sectors.

He said the proposed ‘economic corridor’ from Gwadar to Kashgar in China would bring economic revolution in the region.

“The Gwadar port has a very bright future and after completion and becoming functional it will emerge as a major economic hub in the region.”

The company has also given a grant to the district hospital and government boys and girls schools in Gwadar.

Gwadar Port Authority’s Chairman Dostain Khan Jamaldini said the town’s distance from China through the corridor would be 1,635km.

He said the authority had prepared a comprehensive plan to ensure that local people benefitted from the port. “The Gwadar Port Authority will implement welfare plans, including health and education projects, with funds to be provided by the China Overseas Port Holding Company.”

He said welfare of local fishermen would not be ignored and steps would be taken to promote the fisheries industry with which a majority of the population of the area was associated.

The chairman of the Chinese company handed over the buses to Education Secretary Ghulam Ali Baloch.

The Chinese consul general also visited the port, civic centre, the Gwadar Development Authority Hospital and the district hospital.

Yaar only thing that would have made this really great was that if this could have been a joint venture and would not have been given to the Chinese company for the next 50 years

if we cant do anything, then why burn other opportunities ???

if the others (China in this case) can do something better then why not let them.....it benefits our country too after all

Gwadar has tough competition from will take a lot of investment for it to succeed.

yes you are right.....

I looked up chahbahr (immediate competitor) on google earth/maps.......it is way more developed than gwadar but crowded too.....but the thing with gwadar is the DEEP SEA PORT.....so it gets a good edge

plus...being empty gives an edge too...more space for investors....as a result less cost more space you get more value for money :D :D

but trust me the Chinese enjoy competition ..... and this what fuels their success :D

It's not the job of the Chinese to make Gwadar successful it is Pakistan's job.

hmm, did we give it away like we gave our Air bases to USA, or can we go into Gawadar, do we have some shares etc?

well we (Pakistan) are the ones who planned to lease Gwadar port to china ...... sorry I used the word "their" , what I meant was both of us.....(as quoted in an earlier post) :)

Chabahar port of Iran is direct competitor of Gwadar. Both have good future.
Sorry for binging up old thread but no chahbahar port doesnt have equal potential as gwadar. gwadar is the deepest n largest port in the region.

Actually Gwadar is the WORLDs largest deep sea port.
I read that but only by pakistanis, mujhay iski confirmation chaheay.
That when we say worlds largest and deepest than in what sense.both depth or largeness.that is large in entire world.or deepest only in world. Or both large and deep at the sametime in the world.
Or the most largest 'deepest port' in the world.
Kuch confusion hay BUT i have no doubts about potential.none in region can rival it.

That and Dubai, Dubai neither Chabahar want to see Gwadar succeed.

I don't think there is much competition for Gwadar. Especially when the Chinese are involved. China is the main operator and beneficiary of Gwadar. If Gwadar is able to fulfil just the need of Pak and China it will flourish. Let alone other countries. China needs a lot of energy. The requirement is immense. Not to mention a route for cheap goods. Gwadar is the safe passage. There is a reason why there's immense paranoia from the Americans/Indians regarding Gwadar. They know its potential. They know its value. Gwadar is priceless a gem.
