Their is no need of these type of platform cause current fighter can fly more than 10 hours with refueling and second that was the easiest target for enemies because of speed and size.

There will always be a need for the MOTHER ships or flying carrier w/e
I dont know whats the practicle need but i see a way lot of Mother ships in sci fi movies.

Maybe century later if we are able to pass 2012 mark then we may find out the use again if we are alive though.
