BSF ‘torture to death’ a Bangladesh national in Chuadanga

A Bangladeshi national has died after being tortured allegedly by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). The incident was reported from Chakulia border point of Damurhuda Upazila in Chuadanga.

BSF reportedly detained Bokul Mandal at Hudaparha area in Indian territory opposite to Pillar 86, Lt Col Mohammad Amir Mojid of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said.

The 28-year-old had gone there with four to five others to bring back cattle early on Saturday. Rest of them managed to escape, the Chuadanga-based BGB official said.

“The BSF men tortured him and left him in a critical condition. His friends and acquaintances rescued him and took to a clinic in Damurhuda,” said Bokul’s brother ‘Shofiqul’.

“He was then transferred to the state-run hospital of Chuadanga where the doctors declared him dead,” he said.

Massive Indian condom haul seized in Hili

The Border Guard Bangladesh has seized 182,000 pieces of smuggled condoms from the Hili port in Dinajpur on early Thursday morning.

Hili BGB Camp Commander Subedar Abdul Mannan confirmed the seizure of the massive condom haul to the Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “A BGB taskforce raided the smuggler’s den and recovered 182,000 pieces of Indian Deluxe-brand condoms worth Tk18.2lakhs.”

No arrests were made in this connection.
