Karachi: Large consignment of arms captured

Why dont we have strict gun laws? Anyone that has a problem with another guy finds a gun next door and shoots him. We have millions of illegal guns running around in our country.

We need a zarb e azb against illegal guns and strict laws to have one. Though this problem is more prevalent in Karachi compared to other urban areas.
I support you. :victory:

Police or Rangers is not efficient on their check points.

How can such amount of weapon or ammo reach inside the city in the first place. No one will take responsibility.

Its caught from HQ of MQM party which means that political establishment is involved with attacks inside country.
Take a long hard look at the earth map of Karachi available on Google Maps, there are hundreds of paths entering into the city, and it is simply not possible to monitor each and everyone of them, my guess is that this cache was built up over time, with weapons smuggled from Afghanistan via Balochistan, or by using fishing boats.

Most of these guns are the ones used during Russian - Afghan jihad from the 80's. Thats when we started having this kalashnikov culture.

nato containers case should be kept in mind.some years back a guy from karachi told me that if all the weapons mqm have would be put on roads we wont have place to move.

MQM-P and MQM-L should be banned because of bhatta khori, violance, killing, money laudering, etc.

As much as i agree with the above assessment of prestigious & informed posters .... It can very well be a MQM consignment ... but i don't get it that how come NATO weapons coming into MQM hands highlight involvement of RAW ....

yes RAW is indeed involved to an extent in MQM decision making (if news are to believed) ... but did RAW ask NATO guys to offload Containers and thn show them Lost in Transit while they are ship to MQM ... i mean wouldn't it take atleast more than one Agency to do so !

secondly those who are asking for check points and stuff for control of weapon's movement ..... with current strength of Police in Karachi .... RAW itself can come and Park any amount of Arms and hardly anyone notice ... We need not only to look to the disease but also cause of the disease and also way to stop spreading of it ... wherever thr will be a GAP ... someone will come thr to fill it in ... it is Good Guys or Bad .... Govt to decide ...

The report shows the city has a total of 26,647 policemen but it has only 14,433 policemen available to maintain law and order and guard the lives and properties of more than 18 million people of Karachi.

Some 8,541 policemen, the report says, are deployed for security purposes and 3,102 personnel are separated for investigation of criminal cases. The breakup of the force on security shows some 6,127 policemen are hooked to Security-I and II, 204 are deployed at the Chief Minister’s House, 119 at the Governor’s House, 474 reserved for courts, 767 in Foreign Security Cell, 708 in Muhafiz and Madadgar-15, 129 in Anti-Encroachment Cell and 13 in Private Security Cell. “The 14,433 personnel are being deployed in two shifts – each spans 12 hours a day,” it added.

I am surprised Pakistani govt. does not find country of manufacture of these weapons like India, which immediately finds Pakistani origin markings on seized weapons and pigeons.

I think MQM dumped a lot of weapons in their good days for possible bad days like the ones they are having now but they forgot, you need someone yo pull the trigger too. I think the security forces have done infirst phase to focus on man behind the trigger.

The sheer number of weapons suggest they must have similar hideouts of this size all over Karacho otherwise they wouldn't have put all eggs in one basket.
This gives me goosebumps!

I think these are weapons which were brought in Karachi a few years back (2011, 2012). A major disruption in the law and order situation was feared but things started going other way when establishment started tightening it's grip after July 2011 incidents.

But you know that police and Rangers can not make checkpoints every 500 meters around a city, right? So Intelligence is working in the areas not guarded but potentially be exploited by smugglers and enemy elements. Hence, most of these kinda operations are intelligence based and not hot pursuits.

KARACHI: The law enforcement agencies on Wednesday foiled a major terrorist attack plot in Karachi by capturing a large consignment of arms and explosives in the city, ARY News reported.

The law enforcement personnel captured the weapons and explosives kept hidden in the water tank of a house in Azizabad.

The law enforcement officials conducted raid at a house in Block-8 of Azizabad near Nine Zero headquarter of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), on the indication of an arrested suspect, sources said.

The consignment of the arms and explosives included 250 rocket launcher shells, anti-aircraft gun, sub-machine guns (SMGs), hundreds of bullets, TT pistols and large number of other small and large weapons, police officials said.

No arrests made during the police raid. Investigation agencies inquiring about the elements behind the arms consignment most likely to be used in terrorism incidents in the city.

Such a comment coming from a think tank equivalent status is disappointing.

Karachi is already divided into six districts for management issues. There are 114 police stations in all 6 districts.

The other different branches are:
FIA,
Special Branch,
Operations branch,
Investigations branch,
Anti extremist cell,
Sindh Reserve Police
and Counter Terrorism Department.

The SSU is a different branch.
Traffic police department is also separate.
ANF or Anti Narcotics force is also a separate department.

To complement Sindh Police, the whole contingent of Sindh Rangers is deployed along with police. Infact Sindh police is hardly seen alone in any operations, Rangers are always with them.

There is a branch of CMI (ISI) dedicated in combating crimes in Karachi especially towards car lifting, car theft, car snatching etc because such vehicles are then used in anti-state activities, which makes it difficult to track afterwards.

I know of the NATO container tracking project completed by NLC in 2007 in Sindh, Balochistan and KPK from Karachi ports to the borders of Chaman and Torkham all along the highways.

Mate, all the measures are in place.

If the establishment accepts your reason of "hundreds of paths entering into the city" and cannot monitor and manage different routes entering Karachi with the all the strength and departments mentioned above, then the establishment has failed and the security management of Karachi should be privatised.

Between 19000 - 23000 NATO containers disappeared from the port in Karachi in thin air. And USA did not make any complaints....Fishy isn't?

any news on the make of those weapons? are they NATO supplies? or the russian/chinese made stuff?
