Very low transit fee for India to use Bangladesh route raises eyebows

what if we start demanding such crazy rates for all Bangladeshi transports to different countries? You don't even have the option to bypass us.
I can't remember any other country other than Nepal and Bhutan that we use Indian territory to do business. And total trade with those two country is around 50 million USD. You are free to block those trade in exchange of scrapping this transit deal.

Only a high-on-emotion-Bangladeshi would want to lose 50 million USD worth of business for a few lakh taka.....future businesses, transits to East and South East Asia, maybe China in future, etc. are extra..think like a businessman..:P

We don't need indian territory to do business with south east asia. Most of the trade will always happen through sea and remainder through Bangladesh-burma border. Why would we cross the difficult nagaland mountainous jungle to reach south east asia my genius?

We are making roads to Myanmar & Thailand, and it's a short distance by road...anyways, scrap the deal and lose all the future earnings, along with many other things mentioned in my previous post. :)

I dare you.....:D

At first you should utilize those road to Myanmar,Thailand to count as a substantial.I doubt those road will make any significant difference to the total trade volume among India, Burma and Thailand.

This is said to be a shortcut to NE development but really unwarranted to have a land access through a hostile Nation and a potential enemy.GOI should develop infrastructure around chicken neck.

Even Nations which have exclaves don't use enemy territory and here NE is not even a exclave for India which is already well connected through road and Railway.

Shorter route is no excuse when govt is already partner in a super highway from India to Thailand.

Yes, Sheikh Hasina is ensuring that cash starved Bangladeshi government and Bangladeshi transporters & associated industries earn some money through the deal, and Bangladeshi people with miopic vision crying foul. Instead of making Bangladeshis rich we should spend that money to improve our rail and roads. :)

Dear Bangladeshis,

Tk 1058 per tonne transit fee!!! We ain't paying it. :D

Btw @Doyalbaba the infrastructure you are taking about, we are giving you $250 million grant and $1.75 billion soft loan to make it. Give all that back and take Tk1058 transit fee. :P

We are evil baniyas, no getting away from us!! :D

It will mostly use Tripura and Barak valley people. They are like district people of BD. So cost should be taken in account respective to their capability. And other ways make out easy credit lines from India to minimize the side effects.

What is the source of news about 250 million dollar grant? Is there any declaration from indian side to convert 250 million as a grant from 2 billion credit?

We don't transport anything through India except export to Nepal and Bhutan ,so you can't blackmail us.

Yes, just google it. It's already done.

1058 per tonne is too high, not practical. A forty ft container carrying 40 MT cargo will have to pay 42320 and then import duty and tax including transportation charges in/to the country of destination will raise the price of goods for thr final consumer. If you want to earn, make some weigh points mendatory on the way or some toll tax.

We are not like China, we are a benign responsible neighbour who won't blackmail small neighbours for own gain, otherwise there were many options to...:P

It's a business deal where we are ready to pay transit fee, transport cost, fuel cost, tolls & taxes, multiple loading & unloading costs, etc. even infrastructure development cost to Bangladesh. Now all these cost should be reasonable enough for us to see cost benefit, otherwise why should we use that route instead of our own route? And Bangladesh will lose the entire business...Bangladesh is free to decide its charges, and we are free to decide whether to accept that and do business..:)

Toll rate per should be less, even if there is a premium for giving transit access at the max it would be double.
I think they will pay the transit access fees and then local toll rate too.
