Ukraine ready to boost defence ties with Pakistan: Envoy
February 08, 2016

ISLAMABAD - Ukrainian Ambassador Volodymyr Lakomov on Sunday said that his government and companies were ready to cooperate with Pakistan in the defence sector with supply and joint production of the world-known cargo plane “Antonov An-225”, besides other areas.
Ukraine, he said, had already supplied the above mentioned cargo planes to Iran and Egypt, and other countries had shown interest to purchase it.
Pakistan could be a regional partner for the plane’s renovation/modification process to production, he added.

Talking to the news agency, regarding bilateral cooperation from trade to defence between the two countries in future, he hoped that the joint production project would be a key to further strengthen their long term ties in the defence sector.
As regards the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the ambassador said that Pakistan being a dynamically developing country, should take maximum benefit from that project.
To a question about the prospects of Ukrainian investment in the CPEC project, he said, “We support this project and the Ukrainian companies would love to invest in CPEC projects as it would be a guarantee of economic stability of this region in the times to come.

Regarding people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Ukraine, Ambassador Volodymyr said a number of draft agreements had already been finalised, most of which were related to ministerial level in the sectors of education, culture, media and others, including exchange of visits of delegations between the two countries.
Talking about the role of Pakistan against terrorism, he appreciated the role of Pakistani government and the armed forces to fight terrorism.
The entire world recognised the sacrifices of Pakistani nation as well as the armed forces, he added.
Regarding bilateral cooperation in the education sector, he said more than 1,000 Pakistani students were studying in various Ukrainian universities, especially in the faculties/departments of medical, engineering, textile, agriculture and metallurgy.
Ukraine, he said, had over 100 universities, which had capacity to accommodate more students from Pakistan and the embassy would provide all possible support in that regard.
About cooperation in the field of trade and investment, he said the two countries were working to finalise a draft agreement, “Mutual Encouragement Investment Protection”, to enhance investment opportunities.
This agreement would encourage investors by ensuring safety of their investment, besides helping in avoiding double taxation between the two countries, the envoy said.
Pakistani businessmen, he said, could take benefit from Ukraine by investing as the country had a Free Trade Agreement with European countries, he mentioned.
The ambassador said the main objective of the Ukrainian foreign ministry was to achieve membership of the European Union and the government was fully committed to fulfil its requirements.
He called upon the world community to support the Ukrainian people, who were facing “worst aggression” by the Russian forces, for the latter’s withdrawal from their areas.
Volodymyr claimed that more than 9,000 innocent citizens, including women and children of “occupied areas” had been been killed by the Russian forces and about 30,000 injured, while over 100,000 people were forced to leave their houses and take refuge in other parts of the country.
The Ukrainian nation, he said, wanted elections in thoise areas in a free and fair atmosphere, which could be provided only after the withdrawal of Russian forces.

Strange but what will Pakistan do With Such Gigantic Plane...?

Refueling? Cargo Lift? Military Cargo?

and Which countries gonna buy this from Pakistan??

@Quwa @MastanKhan

Regarding the discussion we were having the other day; this is the kind of opportunity where the private sector
can jump in and these are the ways in which one can build partnership with companies and make newer products.

dude ever heard about PIA crisis they cant afford it yet but since it is a cargo maybe it can be used by PAF

This is multirole cargo plane i think we should do partnership this plane is as good as US made C 7

In time of war we can drop tanks artillery for quick reaction from strategic points if this beast we have

Army needs it

Must have been a major miscommunication. Antonov is looking to push the An-178 and potentially even An-188 (A-400 class transport) to as many markets as possible. Pakistan has potential considering that it could at some level use new transport aircraft.

If anything, the An-178 (18 ton lift) would make for a good compliment to the C-130s. In fact, the air-to-air refuelling (AAR) version of the An-178 would make for a good tactical tanker system, perhaps even ideally suited for Pakistan and supporting the JF-17s (more so than the lumbering IL-78).

Besides the An-178 and An-188, I'd also be interested in the Grot 2 trainer. I think that platform has the potential to one day replace our K-8s and even serve as a LIFT.
i like the kc-390 as a replacement for the c130, its like a mini il-78. also Ukraine has spare 78's for sale

Pak will never operate an225 or make it any time soon.An 124 is also not possible it requires 6-8 hours of maintenance per hour of flight.
Egypt operates An-74 10 ton or 52 passengers
Antonov_An-74-200,_Egypt_-_Air_Force_JP7155931.jpg

Iran Operates An-124 54 passengers they also co produce it called Iran-140

They are both not needed by pak as we already operate Saab 2000 and cn 235 which has equal cargo capacity
I guess deals with Ukraine will upset our deals with Russia
Best deal will be An-178 newer better

C-17? Is a huge plane maintenance will be havoc mate.

True.. Pak can buy 1 or 2 units... If not... Pak can partner with Ukraine and produce some other model...
ahahahaha nice joke, how about a whole squadron? 350 million for a unit mate.PIA chalti nai aur jahaz lene chalay.PIA Loss is about 310million per year and we talk about spending more bucks on stuff we don't really need.

What BS, there is only one plane manufactured till date, there are probably no customers , what then will Pakistan gain from manufacturing this?

I think what they mean is that we co produce these plans but for whom as PAF or Army doesnt need these but for export may be

Army needs it
It will get shot out of the sky before it even reaches the battlefield. A troop could locate it and warn everyone even with his naked-eye.
Better to go for smaller Antnov planes.
There are many of them.
