on english: it was like that in the 90's and early 2000's when urban people were crazy for english but now it has changed. our university graduation exam used to require passing an ENGLISH test, but it was cancelled in 2007.

I cannot go with what you say unless you can quote something reliable. This being a defence forum, I am obliged to not trust you for what you only say. Dont you see how I try and support my thoughts with relevant paraphernalia?

i am not an urban resident

OK that helps me understand where you are coming from. But if you stay in urban China, all I can say is step outside and look around.

it is an extreme exaggeration to say that english skills are the sole factor used to judge people, in fact it is the least important factor in most jobs. what does a factory worker or engineer need with english?

English is the language of the world. Why go far, look at HK, if you want to plug in to the world, English is key. The Chinese govt has actively tried to promote English. Ping me if you need that substantiated, but there are any number of sources.

one of the offici...

No one in China speaks English over Chinese at home, while many in India speak English over their home language.

Negative.

i am definitely not ashamed of bringing reality to indians however.

What you should be ashamed of is telling lies with a straight face.

completely wrong

this show ur ignorance and ur unwillingness to learn anything

HINDI is the most spoken language in india. Most of the Indians even percieve its as our official language.

But in reality Indian constitution states no official language

in India hindi by far is ahead of english in terms of spoken language

in India we do not have any obsession for english, the reason why it is prevalent here is because we r a commonwealth nation, just like all other commonwealth nation where english is popular

but like china we r not importing any language only due to obsession

At best I can say, your knowledge about India is very poor. You even don't know how many languages exist in India.

As if you know how many different languages exist and are spoken in China? No, you wouldn't have a clue. Neither do most people from other countries.

The probable reason for his knowledge about India is poor, might be that India is generally irrelevant towards the average Joe in China, or in USA, Russia, France, Japan, Australia... for that matter. When has an average Chinese bought an item made in India? probably never. What percentage of news, even including on-line news, has covered matters in India that made impact for the average Chinese people? Negligible.

One exception might be UK, as there are significant population with South Asian background lives and works here, though I bet the average Britons probably know more about Indian cuisines than the types of languages in India, cos that at least has some connections with their dinners.

But to look at the world as a whole, few on the streets give a toss about it. Because India as a country is so remotely associated with their daily lives, and when it makes very little impact, people don't need to know.

It seemed to me that both China and India just don't make many bleeps on the radar screens of average people in developed countries. The difference is, China is actively withholding information, while India has very little to report.

Neither. India should be not PRC's foe or friend!!! We just need to have economic and diplomatic relations. Nothing else.

So true!

Another thing: God da** BT uses a call centre from India!

My internet router got some simple problem years ago. I knew from the start that it was the problem of my machine and needed a new one from BT.

When I called BT, they transferred me to India, as I immediately recognised those funny accents. They got me almost 1 hour on the phone line asking about my router production series No# etc. nonsense. I talked to 5 Indians, including 2 self-claimed "experts"with degrees on telecom Engeneering and a line manager. They were bullsh*ting all the way and didn't solve a thing!

Inefficient and useless ! - that's my only direct personal interaction with anything from India. Hope never again! Oh my...

That's also one of major reasons I moved later to avoid any BT lines.

India may not become China's friend because we didn't have more than neighbours in thousands of years in history. They are not our foes either because they may be not "qualified".

Yo bro, think most people from call centres solve problems via some pre-written checklists, sorry to hear you that had some bad experiences with them, though careful don't want you get kicked again for making funny comments, even though I know you are probably speaking from your heart.

That being said, Netizens and computer-literate tech savvies only represents a small portion of Indian people, let alone some warmongering extremeists. I've met many well-educated doctors and engineers with Indian origin, and generally they are peaceful folks. They have relatives living in India on poor earnings who will suffer even more greatly if there were a war breaking out.

Indian politicians can sit cozily behind desks giving big talks to gain votes while it's the average brothers and husbands and fathers losing their lives in the front lines on the battlefields. I have no doubts that there are someone gaining favorable political standings while manipulating the media for "China threat" theory.

Except for India, China has resolved border disputes on the land with all neighbouring countries. While personally I don't like CCP controlled government giving too much concessions or "selling motherland in exchange for something" as we used to call it, at least it showed Chinese government was willing to negotiate to some extend. And that's some cool-headed political maturity.

The activities during recent years and the trick of playing ordinary Indian people's fear mentality fueled by its misconception that an imminent war with China is going to break out soon, just grinds away China's patience. And this leaves a treacherous road ahead for the relations.

The way I see it, both countries don't want wars as that doesn't serve their economical interests; between friend and foe, there must be some middle grounds. Imagine if most Indians behave like George Bush typed gun-ho macho men - be my friends or be my enemy, then it leads to war, and I see that day's coming. Pity that a lot people don't see it, or they don't want to see it, for whatever reasons.

" 据《现代金报》报道,记者4月21日从浙江工业大学教务处获悉,该校已正式明确从2003级开始,将英语四级考试和学历学位脱钩,不再执行原来“50分毕业,60分授予学位”的政策。只将英语四级作为第四学期英语课程期末考试,考试及格给予学分,不及格进行补考或重修,同时承认已取得的国家英语四级成绩。据悉,除浙工大外,其他省属高校均未对“脱钩”一事正式表态。 "

zhejiang province since 2003 has already cancelled all english graduation requirements, and places the english graduation tests as merely the "final" examination for 4th semester (2nd year) english.

english is a mere tool. no one in china says that it is any more important than math or chinese, because guess what, if you fail the chinese literature part of the exam on the high school graduation test, it does not matter if you can write English like Shakespear, no school will accept you. It is being emphasized because it is HARD to most people, not because it is more important than math which in my opinion, and that of most employers in science and engineering, is far far far more important, as it is the only truly global language.

it is also funny how you criticize CHINA for promoting a SECOND language when INDIA cannot even have all its citizens be literate in ONE.

Thanks. I've always said what I mean by my heart. PC is just not in my DNA.

If Pakistani friends/mods even can not defend this amateur military forum wisely and effectively, how can one suppose to believe that they can do well in defending their country in a real millitary conflict?

I haven't lost my full trust on them yet. :pakistan::china:

Partially agree, and yet again, If "Netizens and computer-literate tech savvies only represents a small portion of Indian people" as you said, what's the ratio of "well-educated doctors and engineers with Indian origin" that you met in the UK to Indian general population? 0.00000...1%? Correct me if I am wrong here.

So here is the question: how can you convicingly argue that this "generally peaceful" tiny tiny minority of Indians living in a foreign land remotely be representative of what Indians are in general in their home land India?

It reminds me of the fact that many Indians claim that because the average IQ of Indians in Silicon Valley is > 100, so the Indian population average IQ in India must be > 100? Are you arguing with the same logic?

Do Chinese in China want to know what are the most representative thoughts of Indians in India on the matter, or just want to know the most popular thoughts of "well-educated doctors and engineers with Indian origin" who currently reside in the UK?

Hint: yo bro, isn't that an anecdotal evidence from your part?

Absolutely agree for this part.

Just because this unusal warmongering tone of most Indians here in PDF (most are in India, with a few abroad) is so overwhelming , that this could well be, I am afraid, more like a piece of quite decent statistical evidence of what could be the most popular views of Indians in India in general on the matter, rather than those "well-educated doctors and engineers with Indian origin" you met in the UK would otherwise suggest to you.

I fail to see that the most mainland Chinese PDF members in China react the same way most of the times.

Therefore, regardless what most Chinese in China wish/or what CCP wishes, China must be prepared to enter a war.

Yes, it is unfortunate, no husband/father/son would like to die in vain, and no people with reasonable IQ wants a war!

However, endless warmongering provocations sprout by India ranging from its top govenment officials to their major media to the lion share of its online-population, would most likely force China into this war eventurally, whether Chinese like it or not.

Should there be a war, God Forbid, it would be short, surgically clean and decisive, I fully trust that! :china::pakistan:

i am not an urban resident by birth, so i'm not very crazy for English but i happened to learn it well anyways due to preparation for graduate school as it is required to pass 2 english tests to get in. it is also understandable since many scientific papers are written in english.

Just what is wrong with you friend? When will you guys stop telling us what is good for us and what isn't. Believe me, we know what is good for us and we know what we are doing. English and Hindi have an equivalent status in India. The very large variety of languages spoken in India makes it impossible to designate any one language as the national language. Moreover each state is free to pursue its own educational policies as education is a state subject in our federal system of governance. I for one am extremely proficient in three languages, Hindi, English and Bangla. Most Indians know atleast two languages. How many languages do you know by the way?

Dont equate our system with yours. Our system works for us. Period.

Why to quote your personal experience to make a negation of whole country and its industry?

Just to mention mine on the same way, When I landed on Hongkong international airport one lady attendant started talking in strange (rather funny) accent and confused over where to send me for waiting area... If that can happen in HK on international airport, which was under Britishers till 10 years ago.. how come You can expect the same to Indian guys on Phone? And tell me, do u really think a technical problem can be solved so quickly on Phone?

Thanks for you genreaous comments for India/Indians... There are many people here in India also thinks on the same way that Chinese are just copiers and cheap productmakers...

Really??... And I thought there is a problem with Taiwan...:bounce:

I simply dont like thread title...India knows what it needs to do.
so many years they have never been China's friend..how does it matter if they are now their friend or not ?

Really??... And I thought there is a problem with Taiwan...:bounce:

I don't think neighbouring countries include Taiwan since China considers it as a province. Don't quote me on that.

If they consider Taiwan as their state then why do they boil when US gives arm and consider them as a separate nation. Same logic applies for Tibet as well that France and other countries consider it separate nation ( I am not including India as India has already considered Tibet as part of PRC)..
