It is more than obvious that India is trying to blackmail Pakistan on the water issue and this new twist, that Pakistan should show progress on terrorism if it wants to work with India on the water issue is but an example of this blackmailing. The water issue would have to be resolved as per the IWT, and if I am not wrong, there is no clause in the IWT that suggests that Pakistan has to satisfy Indian demands on 'miscellaneous issues' to get resolve the water issues.

If India keeps twisting the Pakistani arm, I am afraid Pakistan will do the inevitable, that is, to fuel up the independence movement in Kashmir. Pakistan Military can go that far on cooperating with the Indians and the Americans, but if they were to chose between 'Pakistan and no Pakistan', I am pretty sure, they'll tell the Americans, "screw you", and they will do what they have to do. Therefore, it is in the best interest of both the countries, India and Pakistan, not to push each other too much, else neither Pakistan is Nepal or Bhutan, nor India is USA or Russia.

India should simply walk out of the IWT. This treaty is not benefiting India in any way. Its only meant to safeguard the interests of Pakistan. Pakistan has done all possible things to harm India. They can keep threatening to harm us. We have seen the worst and come out on top.
We all know, if Instead of India, Pakistan was the upper riparian state, India would have been a desert by now.

BUREWALA – Chairman Indus Water Treaty Council Hafiz Zahoor-ul-Hassan Dahr has said that previous 131 rounds of talks between Pakistan and India under Indus Water Treaty bore no fruits and the latest dialogue would meet the same result.

He also warned that Pakistan could become another Somalia and Ethiopia.

Talking to ‘The Nation’ on Monday, Zahoor pointed to various projects launched by India to divert the water flow of three rivers entering Pakistan from Occupied Kashmir and said these projects were aimed at controlling the water of Chenab, Jhelum and Indus rivers, which were illegal and a clear violation of Indus Water Treaty. He said India was constructing 52 illegal dams, including five large ones, of which as many as 32 small dams had already been completed while 12 others would be finalised in 2014.

Zahoor said New Delhi was also constructing Kargil Dam, the second largest in the world, on Indus, adding that that India was getting support from a consortium of nine non-Muslim countries, four multi-national companies, an international donor agency and three intelligence agencies to accomplish 17 mega water projects for controlling Pakistan’s water. He said India had seized 70 per cent water of Chenab and Jhelum rivers as a result of which over 0.9 million acres of land, being irrigated through Marala Headworks, was now presenting the view of Thar and Cholistan deserts.

Dahr said the Baglihar Dam was causing an annual loss of Rs140 billion to Pakistan and feared that India would soon stop entire water flow of Chenab and Jhelum rivers, turning 18 districts of Punjab and six districts of Sindh into a desert. He also accused Israel and the US for backing India, which resulted in bulldozing the Indus Water Treaty and lamented the fact that the international community was silent over the issue.

He urged the government to take the issue seriously to Indian water aggression. “If the rulers fail to adopt immediate measures, India will turn us into Somalia and Ethiopia,” he feared.

According to him, the anti-Pakistan forces have united and evolved a plan to turn the country into a desert and the irrigation system is being given to a Swedish company on contract to forward the vested interests of India. He said India was spending billions of dollars on this project with the financial support of Israel. He said it was very much clear that the Indian and Israeli lobbies were working on long-term projects to harm Pakistan.

But the real question is what does Pakistan planning to do about it ?

Kisan Council for resolution against India

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Pakistan Mutahida Kisan Council on Friday called for submitting a resolution in the United Nations forum to restrict Indian violation of Indus Water Treaty, which is resulting into worst water crisis in Pakistan.

Farmers representatives threatened to start agitation from September 19 (the day of signing the Indus Water Treaty in 1960) of this year at Indian border, to apprise the world community of the worst anti-humanitarian issue that may lead to another war in the Sub-continent. It was stated at a press conference by Imran Shukat, Chief Coordinator of Pakistan Mutahida Mahaz Council, Malik Muhammad Nasir, Chairman Balochistan Zimidar Action Committee, Abdul Rehman, the Secretary General, Balochistan Zimidar Action Committee and Muhammad Ayub, President, Kisan Welfare Council here.

They warned that such Indian aggression for blocking of water would damage our agricultural and industrial sectors.

“India has already signed up different agreements worth Rs 200 billion with international companies for constructing of dams on our rivers - a sheer violation of Indus Water Treaty”, they added.

They said Pakistan has remained oblivion of upgrading the irrigation system as compared to India which may weaken our defence system.

“India has made many water tunnels at three rivers which include a tunnel at Kishan Ganga on the river Jehlum, second, at near Bando Pora on the river Chenab and third water tunnel at near Kargil on the river Sindh”, they said and expressed apprehension that a great conspiracy has been started to destroy our irrigation system.

They are really trying to provoke us, eh?

Yup... India is trying to provoke Pakistan by blocking all of its water.
India is also trying to provoke Pakistan by blocking the French from selling avionics to Pakistan.

20 years from now your government will tell you that India is releasing all of its sewer waste into Pakistan and you all will innocently believe your government and label it another "provocation".

How annoying!

Let them go to UN or world bank. There have been no violations. Pakistan has a failed irrigation system, and most of the river water escapes to the sea.
I will have to research to get the facts and figures.
Maybe in the morning!!1:lazy::lazy:

Water Flows or Blood

Reiterating their demand for the defence of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, thousands of Pakistani farmers alongside the Farmer Wing of Jamat ud Dawah lead by patriot Professor Hafiz Muhammed Saeed lashed out at the recent Indian blockage of water that rightfully belonged to the Pakistani fields.

In a protest one of a kind – hundreds of tractors marched along Mall Road and gathered at Nasir Bagh area of Lahore. Demanding an end to the water terrorism being committed by India, the farmers showed their courage and determination to defending their rights .Their emotions were described by the banners they held. From ‘Water or War’, ‘Diversion of Pakistani Rivers = Indian Water Bomb’, and ‘Liberate Kashmir to Secure Water’. Realising the realities on the ground and unstinted by the fake promises and photo-sessions by the government ministers in contact with their Indian couterparts they held up a banner which read “No Peace with Indian Water Aggression”. Hafiz Muhammad Saeed once again reiterated his pledge for peace in the region and said that its India which is imposing war on Pakistan.

“My crime is that I speak for the oppressed people of occupied Kashmir and India, my Deen demands that I should speak for Indian Muslims and other minorities subjugated by ruling elite of India,” he said.

Hafiz Saeed also spoke of the hypocrisy of UN Security Council and talked about how they were in haste while imposing sanctions against Jamat-ud-Dawah but totally silent on the controversial Indian projects in disputed territory.

Hafiz Saeed said that by water aggression India wants to starve and disintegrate Pakistan, and that Pakistan’s rulers must come forward to stop Indian aggression against Pakistan. He warned the aggressors that this protest was infact just the beginning of the “Farmer Kashmir Caravan” movement against the water terrorism being committed. The farmers showed their support by loud chants and raising their pitchforks and spades in the air. He also added that JuD would start the movement in all four provinces and Azad (liberated) Kashmir and revive the combined feelings for the need of defending the homeland against the Indian threat.

The Water Rally was also addressed by Jamat-ud-Dawah’s head of Political affairs Hafiz Abdur Rehman Makki, convener Tehreek Hurmat-e-Rasool Moulana Ameer Hamza, Moulana Hasnain Siddiqi, Inamullah, Abdul Qadir Subhani, Abul Aziz Alvi, Asfhfaq Jutt and others.

Head of farmer wing of Jamat-ud-Dawah Ashfaq Jutt said farmers cried in front of everybody that there is no water for cultivation but no one took notice of it, now this is Hafiz Saeed who heard our cries and helped us to show the world that how we the farmers of Pakistan are suffering due to Indian water aggression. On behalf of farmers of all four provinces Ashfaq Jutt thanked Hafiz Saeed for his support for the noble cause of irrigation water.

It was a unique demonstration to protest Indian water aggression by bringing hundreds tractors on the Mall to show how much Pakistani farmers are affected and concerned about decreasing water in Pakistani rivers. The speakers said that if the current situation continues then Punjab and Sindh provinces may become desertswhich will be a huge blow to Pakistan’s economy, security and stability.

Even if there is no violation, that will not stop the death and dehydration of millions. If India does not admit its wrong-doing and come to an agreement then those dams and barrages will become targets.

Arrey, there is just a problem of miscommunication between India and Pakistan. Besides, water levels in all Himalayan rivers has been declining due to global warming.

Why will India try to be responsible for the death and dehydration of millions? Hum log bhi insaan hain yaar, koi haiwaan nahin.
