Russia holds Japan whaling research vessel

That is verily disputable, my friend. The Kuril Islands , in its continuity, were settled and colonized by Japanese during the 1860s. In fact, both the Imperial Government of Japan and the Imperial Romanov Dynasty of the Russian Empire signed an accord to accept the following territorial swaps: 1) Japan relinquishes claim of Southern Sakhalin Island and recognizes Russian control over Sakhalin and 2) Russia recognizes Japan's claim and control over all the Kuril Islands. This was a signed memorandum prior to the Russo-Japanese War of 1905, and was further reiterated after the Russo-Japanese War.

Due to these precepts, and the fact that the San Francisco Treaty does not stipulate the concession of the Kuril Islands to any Allied Power, thus, the Government of Japan claims of Southern Kurils.

Respectfully Yours,

With all my respect. Russia begins to regain lost as a result of betrayal in 1991 territories. Return, and not to give. On the Russian side in this matter there is no dispute. This is the territory of Russia, and we do not claim any part of the territory of Japan.

The official said Tokyo is in contact with Moscow over the matter through diplomatic channels, as well as with the crew members who haven't been officially detained.

Diplomatic Realpolitik. Ha.

I respect your view and in light of understanding the Russian vantage point.

Obviously the spies on the so-called fishing vessel must be interrogated until all they do is "blubber."

Russia has its position. Japan also has its position over the Kuril Islands. Irrespective if whether or not the United States supports our position on this , which it does, Japan will continue its claim over the Southern Kuril Islands. It is in my understanding that the new developments of the JMSDF 4th Escort Fleet, and the deployment of new air assets to the JASDF's Northern Command will enhance Japan's capabilities in carrying out its territorial claims and ability to protect our territorial integrity.
LOL a few nukes on Tokyo will end Japan's adventure quite fast.

Russia seizes Japan research whaling ship in Sea of Okhotsk | The Japan Times

Russia has seized a Japanese research whaling ship in the Sea of Okhotsk on suspicion of intruding into Russian territorial waters, government sources said on Friday.

The 712-ton Shonan Maru No. 2 left Japan on Aug. 8 to examine whales in the Sea of Okhotsk at the request of the government-linked Fisheries Research Agency.

Russian authorities say the patrol ship failed to notify them of a change in its planned route. The research was originally set to take place in Russia’s exclusive economic zone but the ship intruded into Russian territorial waters, the sources said.

The skipper and crew members of the ship have been questioned by Russian authorities since Aug. 15 on a voluntary basis while the Shonan Maru No. 2 sits anchored at a Russian port, said the agency, which is part of the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry.

The ship used to accompany Japan’s research whaling fleet on trips to the Southern Ocean but has been conducting a visual survey of whales in accordance with plans worked out by the International Whaling Commission.

The skipper is believed to have refused to admit the ship intruded into Russian territorial waters, the sources added.

russians have been questioning the captured japanese crew since 15 august?

@Nihonjin1051

with the latest russian sanctioning, do you think things wouldn't turn ugly ?

Yes. The interrogation techniques are enhanced. Now the Japanese spies are caught. Tied up. Blindfolded. Choked. Electrocuted balls.

which side first disclosed the news of capture? no doubt, its humiliating for the japanese, now even the north koreans are laughing at them. i guess, this report leaked out after the submarine incident had been reported. can japan do anything face saving now ?

Abe can go down on Obama to beg for military help but China and Russia will roll back Japanese forces to their four home islands only. Japanese forces will be killed on sight.

@Europa , my dear, let's not over-sensationalize this. This is the 10th year of its kind of Japanese ships whaling in the region. In fact, there was an agreement with Russia and Japan in 1989. Procedural errors , unfortunately, led the research ship to go far deep into the Western part of the Sea of Okhotsk, quite close to the shore. Nothing serious.

-------------

A Japanese whale research vessel has been inspected by Russian authorities while operating in the western part of the Sea of Okhotsk, Japanese Fisheries Agency officials said Friday.
Russian authorities appear to have concluded that the No. 2 Shonan Maru violated Russian territorial waters because the 712-ton vessel conducted research activities outside an area set in advance.

The Japanese ship failed to notify the Russian side of changes to the research area due to a procedural error.

Through the Japanese Foreign Ministry, the Fisheries Agency is asking for Russia to end the inspection quickly, the officials said, adding that the agency has stayed in touch with the ship.

A Japanese government official said that the inspection is unlikely to continue for a long time because the ship has not committed poaching or any other serious violations.

The No. 2 Shonan Maru, hired from a private company by the Japanese government-affiliated Fisheries Research Agency, left Shiogama port in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, on Aug. 8 for research on whale populations in the Sea of Okhotsk.

The vessel entered Russia’s exclusive economic zone on Aug. 12 and was inspected by Russia’s border security agency on Aug 15. It has since been anchored at Magadan port in Russia’s Far East.

The captain and crew of the vessel have been voluntarily questioned but not detained. A Russian researcher is among the 20 people on board, according to Fisheries Agency officials.

The whale research in the Sea of Okhotsk is the 10th of its kind since 1989 under an agreement between Japan and Russia.

Whales are not killed as part of the research in the Sea of Okhotsk, unlike in Japanese research whaling in the Antarctic Ocean and the northwestern Pacific.

@Nihonjin1051

you are making anime cartoon out of a serious issue ? and you are claiming you would beat russia conventionally? should we take your claim to re militarize japan seriously? don't you think, you have mental problem?

It's not a mental problem but rather a cultural trait. What do you expect from a deceitful guy who starts to act friendly when getting caught pants down? But beware, behind that polite smile is a knife, even when his pants are down.
